AOT to raise air passenger fees

news2011-06-30_11-02-03_255406300008_logo_aot5.gif

BANGKOK, 30 June 2011 (NNT) – The Airport of Thailand Plc (AOT) is preparing to increase the Passenger Service Charge (PSC) due to higher operating cost that the AOT is shouldering and the investment it has recently made.

AOT Senior Executive Vice President for Business Development and Marketing Nitinai Sirismatthakarn said the PSC on international flights would be raised to 800 baht from the original 700 baht while the charge on domestic flights would be increased to 250 baht from 100 baht currently.

The vice president then announced that the rate adjustment would be proposed to the Civil Aviation Board (CAB) for consideration soon.

According to Mr Nitinai, the AOT has to adjust the PSC as the company has invested a lot of money in improving facilities at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The PSC has been directly calculated from the operating capital.

Nevertheless, the AOT may decide to raise the PSC on international flights to 900 baht and maintain the charge for domestic flights at 100 baht instead if the CAB does not want the increase to affect domestic passengers.

As I understand it AOT should be collecting monies from King Power and other outlets, as they are very expensive for a ( developing country )

Vast amount of BMW's and Mercs galore stood doing bugger all, and drivers stood about. What improvements??? to a new flagship airport, built for the Thaksin regime. The aviation hub of Asia.

Really good sound thinking at this time when everything is suffering, Does TAT approve ????? all the crying about tourism, when the cost of a barrel of all is pretty low now compared to it's 150 dollars app-of yesteryear. When it comes to Timing Thailand must still be using an egg timer.

SO sell some limo's----and rent some space to GOOD companies in opposition to K.Power and the likes. Amazing sure.B)

But didn't we just get a report saying that the passenger numbers are on the way up? So increased numbers, increased revenues, so why the need to drastically increase the rates to make the taxes even more expensive???

Of course being an effective monopoly with little or no regulation has nothing to do with them being simply able to increase the rates......

A barrel of what!!??

Can you put 2 and 2 together, What the heck do you think???? BEER--Treacle --Get the message (airport--middle east --fuel--) trying to help you --got it yet ??? Give a little imput yourself rather than trying to pull apart other posters.:jap:

There was a thread earlier today on passenger numbers passing through the 6 airports controlled by AOT and in that same article it clearly stated that the AOT had turned a profit of over THB 2 billion for the operating year.

Shame on them for increasing fees in light of the posted profits.

I'm sitting in a lounge at Changi, whatever the passenger service fee is here it probably should be about ten times that of Swampy on any comparative measure.

Singapore might not be the most exciting city, but they certainly know how to run an airport.

Rather than the 8,000 baht it deserves, Changi charges 524 baht departure fee (S$21).

It's King Power who collect the rents at Swampy as they were given both the exclusive rights to sell duty Free and to control the entire retail area. The Thai equivalent of the monopolies commission did say that this couldn't happen but nothing changed, of course.

They were my exact thoughts as soon as I read this article. And issued on the same day. Amazing Thailand!

AOT should be paying passengers to use that awful airport, rightly described as shopping centre with runways. It seems to be have been built for the benefit of the operators first and the passengers a distant second.

Thailand Passenger Service Charge (TS) 700.00

Singapore Passenger Service Charge (SG) 350.00

Singapore Aviation Levy (OP) 155.00

Singapore Passenger Security Service Charge (OO) 205.00

Subtotal per passenger 24,895.00

Npthing unusual in that. Have you been to Dubai?

According to Mr Nitinai, the AOT has to adjust the PSC as the company has invested a lot of money in improving facilities at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

I wonder if Mr. Nitinai could elaborate on exactly which improved facilities have been done at the airport with all that investment. A simple series of bullet statements with the corresponding amount of investment would be nice. Or just a few bullets specifying these improved facilities would be enlightening. If AOT want to justify these increases by stating that they have "invested a lot of money in improving facilities", I believe they should show what those improvements were. I can think of only two: the replacement of those former torture racks with padded seats at the gate areas, and new baggage trolleys to replace the ones that were spirited away by someone and sold for scrap.

I am particularly interested to know what improvements have been made at the domestic terminal that could possibly justify a 150% increase in the passenger fee. A 250 baht service fee would represent 20% of the total fare on many domestic tickets. This is bound to hurt the accessibility of air travel for locals as well as low cost airlines' sales, and I should think the airlines would be very opposed to the domestic increase.

And even with all those unspecified "improvements", AOT still turned a 2 billion baht profit, yet they require this large increase in passenger service fees?

their land, their airport, their decision about fees - pay it or take the bus

AOT think it's their land, thats the problem. Dictatorial I would say. Your attitude at trying to be smart rather than question the motive behind the increases. You and me are customers here not just sheep.:whistling:

sorry, for im not a native english speaker , i dont mean 'land' , i mean country

customer or sheep, what is the difference in this, and many other cases ?

i can discuss this topic many hours, and what will change ? exactly nothing

Sydney is the same. The departure gate number signs are misleading. Following them, you find yourself walking up and down shopping aisles like a suburban supermarket.
