Flag carrier THAI not raising airfare

29_11_Thai.jpg

BANGKOK, June 30 - Thailand’s national flag carrier Thai Airways International (THAI) will not raise its ticket prices nor fuel surcharge included in the airfare although the Airports Authority of Thailand (AoT) indicates that it will raise its airport use fees, according AoT President Piyasvasti Amaranand.

The national carrier is holding the line on fare costs, he said, because oil prices have dropped. But he cautioned that THAI will adjust its fares if fuel costs rise, the airline president said. Fuel costs are considered the main factor and count for 40 per cent of airline operating costs, he said.

Mr Piyasvasti said that the number of passengers using the airline is satisfactory.

The figure increased 9 per cent year-on-year during June 1-27, while advance flight bookings have risen. The passenger load per flight is some 80 per cent daily. The president said he considered it a good sign for THAI's revenues. (MCOT online news)

Why is "Not increasing fares" a news story, or rather a non-news story?

This will give the stats posters something to look up. I believe that when oil was 150 dollars a barrel, Thai prices were LOWER than now, YES look it up. Therefore oil being 90 a barrel prices should be 30% less. Are Thai trying to con the passengers, I stopped booking Thai because of many things but the main reason was PRICE. You are supposed to be 5th in the world and you could be 1st if you were more competitive --and of course had a new fleet.

 So let me get this straight, Thai is not raising it pricies on it's fares that are higher than most others as it is now ?

Nor are they lowering the fuel surcharge now that the price of oil is down a little ?

Did I forget something ? It's that Thai thinking . . .

It costs over 10,000 Baht to fly to Phnom Penh with Thai, almost the same to go to Penang. The last time I flew to Phnom Penh with Thai the flight was mostly empty.

Here's an example of their crazy pricing :

BKK - Penang - one way only - July 2nd - Cheapest seat 8925 Baht

BKK - Penang - BKK - return flight using the same outgoing flight as above - July 2 - July 5th - Cheapest seat 8915 Baht

So - it's 10 Baht cheaper to do a return flight than it is to do a one way flight.

Something's wrong there !

You could have gone one way to Stansted England with Air Asia KL-direct for that. no frills but true this year/promotion.-- Just to add the Thai carrier did say they are 80% occupied on flights ????:whistling:

Thai Platinum - has anyone noticed the new top tier Platinum card introduced by Thai? Invitation only so nobody knows what sort of mileage they need to do the reach this status. Probably another perk for the execs and their friends. I fly 15 business class international long haul trips with Thai every year and still didn't qualify. Transparency would go a long way to answering my questions!!!

Typical eh!!! I opted out a while ago, they only want who they want for top perks, but can't you get off the bus ??? give your custom to someone who appreciates it, you spend a vast amount of money with them---I know as economy with them is the same price as business with other airlines.

Maybe because they are already amongst the most expensive even tho they pay thier staff little.

I stopped flying with Thai (as others mentioned they have) because of their off-the rack pricing. When they do have discounted flights, they are not well advertised (to the point travel agents often do not even know about them).

In flight service is very good, but absolutely not worth what you pay for off the rack pricing. And, I gather the NZ - BKK route is cheaper than those in Europe.

I can also confirm, they pay their staff low wages - my partner works in the airlines and told me so. To even get a job with them, its who you know, not what you know.

TG lose money, and they raise prices - go figure. Hopefully they will go bankrupt and someone else will take over their routes and provide the same service at a decent price.
