What You Can't Do This Weekend; Thai Election

And in oz, we have a right piss-up while we watch the results come in!

Not to worry. once the polls close, you'll be able to crack open the Champagne and celebrate a PTP victory. cheesy.gif

I suggest that some TVFers stock up on booze as they may need it to cope. violin.gif

Or drown your sorrows as the case may be! Counting in oz finishes for the night around midnight, with another hour or so for western states, and a result is usually observed by then. Great timing for an election party!

The g'kid has a point, lots of countries like to ban sale of alcohol for elections. Must be a sign of immaturity. In the Netherlands we have election day during the week (single day, any of Monday to Friday). Lots of people vote before going to work, or do so after returning. No need to waste the day of the Lord on this.

Democracy, in all it's glory.

For all non-voters here: stock up, stay cool and keep smiling :)

In the Netherlands I can have a joint without having to deal with crooks too.... gotta love the Dutch attitude to life: You're an adult, act like one.

Should we have a TV poll counting the amount of baht our wife/girlfriend has been offered, by which party and which party they will actually vote for?

I'll start the ball rolling - my wife was promised 1000 baht by the puyai ban who (as per normal) renéged on his promise and only gave her 200; he is touting for number 2. She will however being voting for number 10.

Next...

edit: a surfeit of 'ands'

Ummm.... how does banning the sale of alcohol prevent "election candidates and their canvassers wooing votes by giving away free drinks or throwing parties."?

The other argument that it is prevent drunken voting makes even less sense, Somchai can buy a bottle of rum the day before, drink it all just before staggering to the polling station and be completely within the law, no? If this is the real reason, wouldn't it be more effective to have a breathalyser at each polling station?

My 3 year old has a red t shirt with 'Number 1 Rabbitohs fan' on the back...... needless to say he wont be wearing that for a while!

I was wondering why all the motorbike taxis were slowing down giving the thumbs up as he walked along ThongLor the other day.....

I think thumbs up means I ignore you in Thai also (BONG!) so arguably either they thought it was a PT shirt, or far more likely, they are a bunch of rabid Roosters fans, and are angry that despite the extremely average performance of the bunnies, the roosters are even worse this year.

yes, I definitely think my scenario is more likely than yours ;-)

Your best defense...is probably a Robbie Kearns shirt :jap:

why hasn't anyone mentioned the most important omission of this article -

when exactly is alcohol sales banned? i gotta stock up!

Several reports have said 2 July Saturday 6:00 p.m. until 3 July Sunday (I presume here) midnight.

I'm supposed to fly out 6 July, I pray there is no hanky panky at the airport!

I'll see your poofy pommy singer, and raise you a Jason Donovan.

Who would be insane enough to go out where there are locals and alchohol on the day the locals go berserk? Aside from the expats who have lost the plot years ago, buy your drinks, pick up your woman, and party at home. It's ONE DAY.
