FDA HAS DETECTED MERCURY IN A BRAND OF GREEN TEA CREAM

The Food and Drug Administration has detected mercury in a green tea cream cosmetic, which could impose danger to consumers.

FDA Secretary-General Phakdee Phothisiri (ภักดี โพธิศิริ) said the banned substance was found in the green tea cosmetic of the 'Doctor Japan' brand. The label indicated that the producer was Oryocha Co. Ltd. in Japan, and the distributor was B & B Cosmetic Co. Ltd. Product though the serial number and production date were not indicated.

Mr. Phakdee said the mercury in the product may cause allergy, rashes, dark spots, fragility of the skin, and accumulation of mercury, which could lead to urinal track and kidney problems. The penalty law calls for no more than 1 year imprisonment or no more than 60,000 baht of fine, or both.

The secretary-general cautioned the public against purchasing such products, and also said that stores that buy these wholesale products should buy them from suppliers with good credibility.
