Can anyone tell me where I might be able to purchase a deck or two of playing cards? I have some Thai friends who are interested in learning a little poker and blackjack, but so far haven't been able to find any cards in CM. Thanks for your help.

Interesting that TV members know the whereabouts of a deck of cards, while your Thai friends don't.

Wasn't that long ago when having them made you open to paying the police. Now they stop people with no helmet, these ncaome to them and the law does not have to bother walking to get them.

I always get a pack when I go to Mae Sai (my kids always promise to put them bacvk in the pack - and never do!) - never pay more than 50B for good quality platic coated cards (made the mistake of getting the other kind, wear out very quickly). Also get friends/family to bring them from home when they come. We play a fair amount of cards (for fun) in our home - kids like Amreican Blackjack (Pontoon), Go Fish (Old Maid), Contract Whist, Hearts (Black Mariah), trumps and English Blackjack (Twizzle - nothing like Casino or American Blackjack!). Also play Rummy (including Thai version - we call Thai Rummy for want of a better name - which is fun and Gin Rummy also sometimes Wild Card Benny) - tried to get them into ACOL Bridge, but stuck with contract whist so far.

Back in the UK I had a full set of clay poker chips - not seen them for sale even in Burma - good fun for playing casino games with the girls - my 12 year old is getting fairly good with Texas Hold'em! I sometimes play on the internet - used to earn some pocket money doing it in the UK, but now just for fake money/point/fun. I was even thinking of setting up a Thai Poker for Points web site here at some point - with leagues/teams etc - no money, just for fun - maybe expats versus Thais and expat by province or nationality. Started writing it, but got waylayed.
