I have multi. entry visa, based on marriage, visiting my spouse. Before my one year is up, cross to Lao, get three more months. Here is the question, when that is due to expire, can I get a one year extension in country or do the wife and I go to Lao visit the embassy and get another multi entry visa. Thanks

I may be wrong but I thought if you have an 0 visa based on marriage you just go to the immigration office for your area and get an extension of stay every year on the anniversary date of your visa and can stay another year same as retirement visa.

If you have the O visa based on marriage you can go to local immigration with appropriate paperwork and get a 1 yr extension based on marriage.

You will need your Passport, ID Photos x 2, Entry card, Marriage Certificate, wifes ID and Tabien Bahn, photocopies of everything, photos of you and the wife together inside and outside the home (show house number if possible).

You will need to sign all copies relevant to you and the wife signs all copies relevant to her. The wife goes with you for the application and she will also be interviewed.

You will also need to meet financial requirements of 400k baht in the bank for 3 months prior to appication, OR an income of 40k per month OR a combination of the two. If using the income method you will need a letter from your Embassy confirming the income and its good to have supporting bank statements or similiar as immigration may ask for them.

After the application is made you will be given a 30 stamp under consideration whilst your application is processed in Bangkok, you return after 30 days and get you 1 yr extension assuming everyhting is in order. After you receive the extension you will then need to report to immigration every 90 days, this can be done by post if necessary.

I Think thats about it but there are more knowledgeable people here who will no doubt correct if required and advise accordingly.

You dont mention your age, if over 50 an extension based on retirement is easier and less hassle.

The bank requirement for extension of stay is two months in account and there is no combination allowed. 400k in account 2 months or income of 40k per month.

Your one year visa only allows 90 day stays so hope you have been exiting/returning rather than just staying. Have to be sure as some have believed they did not have to do that.

During the last 30 days of any entry you can extend for one year if you meet the conditions.

To obtain a new multi entry non immigrant O visa locally is not as easy as in homeland as most Consulates will only issue single entry and expect you to extend at Immigration. So if you can not extend a trip to KL and show of 100k in bank account is likely the safe option currently.

I do my 90 day runs in and out, It's a non O visa, because I have thai spouse. This is not a marriage visa, no need to show funds in a bank, Yes I could get a marriage visa if I had the funds. So here I go again. Can I get a one year extension, we'll say Nong khai, or can i get a new one year multi entry visa in lao. I hope this clearifies some things, Thank again to all

I tried to answer that in my above post. If you have the financials you can but you indicate you may not so if that is the case you can't. And do not believe you will be able to obtain a one year visa in Laos (but if you try use Savannakhet as believe your chance there is better). KL is the best choice as they have written policy of show 100k for multi entry for marriage. Normally Consulates will only issue single entry as I said before.

Lopbury3, I have always used affidavit from Consulate, but this time will use money in the bank to avoid the $50 affidavit charge. Do we need to make copies of the entire bank book or just last page, and do we need more than one letter from the bank? Thanks in advance.

I have not used that method for many years but always copied front page and last year of entries. Suspect only that last several months are required if many entries however. Only one bank letter should be required.
