Technology Pet Peeves

Featured Replies

I am not a flatearther nor anti-technology. In fact I am a bit of a geek and love the convenience all the modern day toys have brought me.

However. In a word, my number one pet peeve is CABLES

Why the heck does everyone have a different kind of cable connection. My blackberry used to have the same mini usb as my mp3 player, totally terrific since I then only had to carry one charger and one cable for connecting. Now! My blackberry has some new weird USB slot and I must use a different charger and cable for it.

Camera is the same. Not a bog standard USB port but something else, and not the same as either my MP3 or my Blackberry. So, it too has its own cable.

Two different external hard drives. One is mini USB, one is standard USB

Please can we have just ONE usb port size and one cable for everything? Pie in the sky dreaming I know, since I am convinced they make their real money off of selling you replacement cables.

Whats your main technology pet peeve?

funny, when I read the title of the thread I immediately thought about "proprietary interfaces", which is pretty much the same thing you complain about!

:-)

In addtition to your complaint about prprietary USB interfaces, why doesn't everything charge by mini-usb? Kinda ties in, but if for instance I want to use my Nokia 5800 as a quick and dirty WAN interface I burn through my battery...why?

Also hate breakage with standardised human interfaces. Keep things consistent! Yes I am looking at you Office...although there are a lot of programmes in F/OSS that don't conform to norms either.

I just hate technology companies that don't understand the "universal" in USB. You apple heads can pretend you don't care, but I know you do.
