Sort of brings tears to your eyes, but with 94% of vote counted, Chalerm's son is losing. Still has a chance, but seems slim. /via@terryfrd

Chuwit promises to fight corruption

30159349-01.jpg

Rak Prathet Thai Party leader Chuwit Kamolvisit, a former massageparlour tycoon who is known for his

eccentric character, vowed to serve as an opposition member of Parliament to fight against corruption.

"The high prices of commodities, economic crisis, educational problems and abnormalities in the Airport Link construction will be the first issues I will investigate," he told the press at his party headquarters at Sukhumvit Soi 10 after the polls closed on Sunday.

The 50-year-old politician said his political campaign had succeeded because most voters are bored with the two main parties and wanted him to investigate and monitor corruption.

"People have sent a big signal to the two main parties that they are bored with the failure of previous governments' policies and want me to scrutinise them," he said.

He warned the Pheu Thai Party and fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra that they must negotiate with the old powers including politicians, capitalists, and the military to bring the country forward.

He sent only 10 partylist candidates to contest the election.

In the last Bangkok gubernatorial election in 2008, Chuwit received 340,616 votes.

Suphan Buri poised to see upset in Constituency 5

Suphan Buri, a central province known as Banharn Buri, is close to conceding the House seat in Constituency 5 to Pheu Thai Party despite being the backyard of Banharn Silapa-archa's Chart Thai Pattana Party.

At 60 per cent of votes counted, Pheu Thai candidate Saharat Kulsri is leading his rival Chart Thai Pattana candidate Mukda Thiengtham by about 10,000 votes. Chart Thai Pattana is leading, however, in the other four constituencies.

Should Saharat maintain his lead, he is close to achieving a historic win shattering Banharn's perfect records for sweeping victories in Suphan Buri since 1974.

It's not victory of Pheu Thai, but a chance to serve people : Yingluck

In her first speech after 70 per cent of vote counting showed her Pheu Thai party wins over Democrat party, PM-candidate Yingluck Shinawatra thanked the voters who voted for her party and to give opportunity for her party to administer the country.

"It is not the victory of the party, but a chance to serve the people," she said.

She said she already talked with Chart Thai Pattana about forming the government and will talk with other parties later.

"We will implement every policy we have promised during our election campaigns. We will not disappoint our people," she said.

She already revealed that her difficult missions ahead are to improve the economy and society and to reconcile the country.

Put your bets on PT, CTP, CPPP & Matchima faction of BJT forming a coalition of 300+ seats. Chuwit & Purachai say they're in opposition/via @terryfrd

Reports indicate negotiations between Thaksin's people, the army and others will continue into the night. Many details to be worked out./via@wayne_hay

My take on unofficial results: 1) A glance at party list votes show Thailand remains deeply divided, though PT did better than last time./via@tulsathit

2) Though PT wins more than 250 seats, scale of victory's not enough to facilitate an amnesty scheme./via@tulsathit

3) Abhisit may announce he's quitting Dem's helm. Less sure about whether he'd be voted back as party leader./via@tulsathit

4) Vote No campaign is a flop (as of now number of No votes is lower than invalid ballots or votes for Chuwit)/via@tulsathit

5) Yingluck's coalition partners will have considerable bargaining power./via@tulsathit

6) Military will respect the voices of the ppl. But it will be awkward btw Yingluck and the top brass./via@tulsathit

7) Yingluck's first hurdle will be, naturally, how to form a respectable Cabinet and how she accommodates red leaders./via@tulsathit

Ex-coup leader's poll disappointment

Matubhum Party leader Sonthi Boonyaratglin on Sunday attributed his party's poor performance to the sentiment in favour major parties

Sonthi. who led the 2006 coup when he was the Army chief, said he was disappointed at the balloting outcome.

Based on unofficial vote count, Matubhum might not win any constituency seats in the South even though Sonthi had campaigned on the Muslim platforms.

Sonthi and his party-list candidates were habouring a last-ditch hope to secure proportionate vote but their best chance was to win one to two party-list seats.
