What Is This Snake?

Featured Replies

While exercising out in the wild jungles of Phuket Town (top of Khao Toe-Sae, actually), I came across the little fella having lunch.

He (she?) was only about 60cm long and was very busy finishing off a frog. Not a pretty site, but quite fascinating how it stretches its head forwards, grabs the frog with its jaws and then concertinas its neck to drag the body further down its gullet.

Any ideas what type of snake it is?

Sorry about the low-res video - forgot to switch the camera to HD. Doh!

With that ring on the back of its neck and its colouring it looks pretty much like the cobra l had in my house

Monocled Cobra

Yeah, looks like you got a video of a cobra at exactly the right time, when he was busy eating!

Interesting... why is it on Youtube if you took the picture? Wouldn't the video be the original?

Thanks for the replies. I've done a Google Image search on Monocled Cobra and it certainly does look like one:

Yes, I'm no hero and I could see it couldn't do much with it's mouth full of frog! :D

But tonight I'll be a bit more wary when I do my exercising there again!
