Australian Marries Thai Woman

Featured Replies

We were married in Australia in 2010, my wife is a Thai National Citizen, my wife is under the understanding that we need to register our marriage in Thailand in order for her to legally change her name to our married surname for her new passport. What about her Thai ID card does that always remain as her maiden name..any help would be greatly appreciated

As far as I know you need to get your Marriage Certificate translated into Thai and get it verified at MFA in Bangkok. (Chaeng Watthana)

She can change her ID Card to her Married Name if she wishes.

This should help.

This is also required if you intend to extend your stay for marriage as Immigration will require that the paperwork be registered at a Thai District Office and for that the above translation/MFA process is required.

If you are still in Australia you can take your marriage certificate to a Thai consul for certification as true document and you maybe able to register the marriage also. Changing ID name simply take marriage cert. to local khet to get new ID with married name.
