im planning on taking a coach (express bus) for tourists from bangkoks banglampu to phuket. does anyone know where it stops and if it stops in one place once in phuket or a number of key locations?

I took it once like 5 years ago, it stopped at some travel agency on the island in the middle of no where and they tried to sell us hotel rooms. Not in Phuket Town and not at a beach. I had a place already in Phuket Town so they agreed to drive me there in a car. The bus also didn't go directly to Phuket, it stopped at a restaurant part way there for a couple hours and then we had to switch to a van.

The normal bus from the southern bus terminal goes directly there and stops in Phuket Town, and you can get a songteow or a tuktuk in to one of the beaches or a boat to ko phi phi.

would the taxi fee be very high going from the hotel in bangkok to the bus termial? i know that bangkok is notorious for traffic and a 700 fee is probably not unheared of

Many years ago I did that journey, but used a government bus from the nearby Southern Bus Terminal.

It stopped only a few times, one of the stops being at a neon-lit petrol station at night in what seemed like the middle of nowhere, where they'd laid on some free hot food at tables for us. I was the only farang there amongst the Thais eating the soups etc. It was all quite an adventure, being my first trip to LOS.

Arrived in Phuket in the early morning rather the worse for wear after a long journey...

There is also the stop to let the baggage thief get out with all the valuables. Just take a regular bus from the bus station.

Not only , that these are the buses that often crash. like the one recently going to Chiang Mai, killing 3 young Brits. They are not regulated in the same way as the legal route buses which operate from the 3 bus terminals in Bkk.::. Morchit 2 ,Ekamai and Sai Tai. The white with a blue stripe are privately owned 1st or VIP class. recommended. The buses with 99 or 999 on them are owned by The Transport Company. Which does not offer as many 1st class or VIP. buses.

the Bus stops in Phuket ,At the Bus station , if you get off and walk to the top corner, as you get off you will see a baht bus , they will take you to Patong for about 50 baht , or there are taxis, make them use the meters, better still ask the price where you want to go. I have used the over night VIP busses to Phuket a few times so i can sleep on the journey, there are good and bad drivers every where. The price last time i used them was about 800baht 18 month ago.It does stop but there is only Thai food available. if you like Thai food no problem , you can buy sweets and biscuits to.

you don't quite understand. The OP was talking about special buses that take tourists around, They do NOT go from the Southern Bus terminal, nor do they stop at the bus station in Phuket. They are not "Route" buses. As you are talking about. I would ONLY recommend them, not the "charter operators, which generally leave from Banglampoo, you can see Gippys post ,as well.

DONT! TAKE! THAT! BUS!

You wouldn't believe the number of horror stories, and people still book buses from Khao San Road..

Find a proper bus station with legal buses that get you there safely, and without scams and long waits.

Also consider a cheap AirAsia.com flight.

It's not expensive at all to get to the bus station, 700 baht is definitely unheard of. Maybe 100 in a taxi from Khao San in traffic. You could also take a bus there, #511 goes to the station among others. The bus station is very easy to get to and very nice
