I need to buy a carry on bag with wheels for business travel

I'm looking at purchasing from the major Department stores (Robinson's, Central) in Bangkok and would like any feedback on the common brands eg. Polo, Pierre Cardin Marco Polo

It seems the prices are about 5000-7000 baht.

Is it simply a case (no pun intended) of dearer is better?

Any reccomendations or experience with the type of luggage reaily available would be helpful

I have wasted so much money on carry on over the years, brand names, Jatujak specials and crap - I fly F class J Class on business and Y class when I am paying. Honestly I have found the cheapest does the trick, I need space for a laptop and a few pockets for passport and important docs, other than that I am don't need anything fancy. The brands you mention are all nice but given airlines are weighing everything I wouldn't waste 1-2 kilos in weight for something branded or fancy or takes up so much space on board.

I now use a rucksack that cost 1300 baht.

I've traveled extensively around the world the past 10 years. With a backpack and with a carry on with wheels. Due age, I now only travel with a carry on that has wheels. My back just can't take a rucksack/backpack any more. And I've found in most places I travel to, it's much easier pulling a roller than it is lugging around a backpack. Constantly taking it off and putting it back on.

IMHO, don't buy something cheap. The wheels fall off, the zipper breaks, etc. As I've said, I travel extensively. Always in coach. My luggage gets a beating...and the only problem I have had so far are broken wheels. Not bad after banging them around for so long.

I bought a cheap backpack 5-6 years ago here in Bangkok. It lasted one trip. Zipper broke, fabric ripped and I left it in Singapore...where I bought a quality one and still have that backpack to this day. On many trips, I carry on a day pack and check my roller...or carry it on also if the airlines allows! :whistling:

Just last week, I was using a one year old, $200 Samsonite rolling bag with about 20Kg.packed inside. When I came off the long escalator in Suwannabhumi, the wheel caught the edge and broke in half. Even in a $200 bag, it was cheap, hollow plastic.

Yes, the bag is under warrante and I will try to get it fixed but the memory of hauling it out of the airport and on to the rail line will stay for a long time.

I'm not suggesting you buy cheap, but a high price and well known name doesn't guarantee anything either.

In 2000, I bought a Tumi cabin bag at Changi. I am using it at least twice a month, at this for more than one decade... still look brand new!

One of my best investment, actually B)

RIMOWA aluminium case! Professional and durable. My last XXL jumbo case last 10 years on intensive business travelling, the small on board case is now for 6 years on the move. Don,t go for the plastic made ones. When I bought the replacement for my first aluminium case the shop assistant persuaded me to buy the plastic made suitcase. It was broken after two years. So I went back to the aluminium suitcase and I'm happy with it again.
