Connecting A Second Monitor To My Pc

I'm looking at setting up a 2nd monitor in my home office with a splitter cable, I don't mind having the same screen on both monitors, I just need both monitors in different places, I've read that all I need is a splitter cable but could ther be any compatibility problems with monitors?

I currently have this monitor: HP w185 which came with my standard PC bundle & I'm looking at buying this; BenQ G925HDA 18.5"W 1366x768. will they create problems for eachother if used with a splitter?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Simple answer, no.

Why do you want 2 monitors and how far apart will they be? VGA cable has distance limitations.

Thanks for your reply, 1 monitor is on my desk and the other is on my workbench, I've seen long cables online and was hoping I'd be able to get one made up or be able to find one that long in BKK somewhere - I'll be running the cable around the wall about 6-7 metres, do you think that'll be possible?

Can be done.

You can not use a simple double headed cable.

It will not work and will likely destroy the

monitors, graphics card, possibly even the mobo.

It does require electronic components.

I've never seen what you describe

in just a cable assembly.

But you can achieve your goal...

Check out http://www.aten.com/

click on 'Video Splitters' at the low right corner.

On that new page... view the selections...

- or - use the 'key word search' box

- or - use the 'drop down list'

to locate and view the below products

VS0202

There are likely others.

Please do read the descriptions carefully.

Spec sheets are there.

Distance may be a consideration as

cable length/quality may become an issue.

Audio (if desired) may be a consideration.

Using CAT5 is possible.

Budget/cost may be a consideration.

Finding it is another issue.

These use to be called 'Console Sharing Device'.

Now seems 'Video Splitter' in vogue.

Regardless, it is not a 'Video Switch'.

Cheers.

That's blown my plans a little!

Thanks for your time replying :)

I've seen it done up to 25 ft. You can also use a VGA extender over Cat5.

Thanks for letting me know that ra1n85, it seems there won't be a problem as my new PC will have enough available ports to support 2 monitors anyway, case closed :)
