Flatouthruthefog
Let's start a list! Not a poll, a list. Name and shame! This evening I had to go to Makro on Superhighway. And as I stopped in the car park I just knew I had to go, kow jai? And to sit down for a while too. Not what the Grand Prix people used to call 'splash and go'. Having read a previous complaint here a long time ago, I knew I had to find the badly signed entrance and sprint up a long staircase. It's to the right of the main entrance, for you who may be unfortunate enough to need it. Wheelchair users? Go to another planet. At the top of the stairs I rushed into the (extremely badly signed!) entrance, yes, right into the Ladies. Happily it was empty. A quick retreat took me into the Gents and as I raced for a cubicle where once can sit rather than squat, I did briefly see one of those awful rotating paper dispenses on the wall, facing the entrance. There is nothing to tell you that this is the ONLY paper dispenser in the whole place!! You are expected to know this, guess how much paper you might need, take it out of the nasty plastic circular drum and cram it into your pocket, all before you hurtle to answer your call of nature at the comfort station. Comfort station???!!! NONE of the cubicles have Thailand's ONE invention for the world, the high pressure hose!! Really!! So when you experience sweet relief and look around you, all you see is the (open topped!) waste bin with used paper inside. Yeeuch! NO fresh paper and no fresh water. What ARE you expected to do? Waddle outside with your pants around your ankles?? All I could do was flush well, try to clean myself up with the clean water that arrived in the pan, and repeat the process. Then wash my hands thoroughly out in the open. I thought Makro was Dutch owned and Dutch run. I thought these people knew what they were doing. As usual, I was wrong! Can it get any worse than this? I've 'been and gone' in better Thai bus stations! Come on!! Name and shame!!
hellodolly
I think I will make sure I don't have to use their facilities. I have often wondered who owned them. They operate the same as Cosco back in the states. The only difference is they look at your purchases a little bit more and Cosco you can use a American express credit card no other. In fact you can also make your American express card your membership card. there is a Macro in Bali also.
WinnieTheKhwai
The Makro Hang Dong Bog is alright though. Ok you need to know where it is as it is as far away as you can possibly get from the entraince, up the escalator and then to the far corner. But it's okay. Worst toilets in Chiang Mai for me would be a toss-up between the reggae bar area and the CM Entertainment Boxing Ring Bogs. There's also one outside too - on the right hand corner by the security desk. Mostly I find CM loos quite well maintained (having been in a few loos in Bangkok - worst being on the pier by the Royal Palace - three guys and me - unknown to each other - went in and all of us heaved continually until we got out - one of them threw up in the cubicle - and that was 5B each!). Best loo (other than hotels) I think is in the Tiger Kingdom Bar (just down from Mad Dog's). Most interesting is in Daddy's cafe (Night Bazaar) - toilet is found up a long staircase at the back left - the toilet room is massive (for a loo) and more like a main bedroom - the loo itself is set on a small stage you walk up to. The whole side wall is windows - so with your elevated throne position, you are 100% foot to crown on display across the roof at the back of the Night Bazaar! Most entertaining used to be Guitarman, but the walls are now empty of K. Mango's cartoons and jokes - so now is a toss up between the Red Lion (Kevin back as a TV member yet?) and The Olde Bell (for sme reason I always want to put an extra 'e' on Bell! - I know Pytr is still lurking here behind the Lion's moniker)
mccw
In your position I would use my socks and binn em after use; if no socks then it would have b the boxers and go comando till home. Never ever would I do what u did! Absolutely discusting! Go check you've not picked up hepatitis u filthy animal. Even a swipe of the hand followed by a good wash would b preferable; even just leave it and strait home for a shower is better than catching summin. Best toilet (semi public) in cm has to be rimping supermart by the ping; smart hotel standard. Worst ......... too many to choose from. Worst experience was trying to hold the squits in back of mini van on the old bust up road from siem riep to thai border until shout on driver to emergency stop, then dash in to the under growth, squat down to relief and driver shouting at me that I've just run in to an area not yet cleared of mines; literally almost shat my pants. Is an expose' on dingy Indian restaurants next? Very kind, UG, but you must be confusing me with another. I don't suppose you're allowed to suggest on this forum which "dingy Indians" should be exposed? Pass me a note under the door, 2nd cubicle, In Town (the Tiger Kingdom place near Mad Dog) which is indeed one of the best loos in town. Along with the updated/uprated M Hotel, formerly the Montri. And if the Dutch no longer own Makro, Nienke, I think we should be told! I was just about to write to your Hon Consul to ask for proper toilet rolls, and some English language over their fridges....... I think you've saved me a stamp. Oh and, psssssst: Dutch normally don't have their fridge in the toilet ... is that what needs to be written on it in English: "Put fridge in kitchen"? Very clean toilets 50 metres from the entrance to the right, as you face the building.Well they were very clean at 5pm today. The Bus Arcade is prety horrible due to the volume of foot traffic and having to pay for the pleasure
