O-A Longstay Multiple Entry

Featured Replies

HI All,

I have now in my passport a Non-Imm O-A Multiple Entry visa (retirement visa) which i have obtained from Thai Embassy in UK. Process was a bit long but everything went smoothly. However, now i have a couple of questions, related to my understanding.

I understand the difference between the Mulitiple Entry and Single Entry and I do not need a Re-Entry Permit at this stage until near the expire date of the first year validity. Should i stay in Thailand longer than 90 days I have to do the 90 reporting. No problems so far and i have full understanding of this.

However, when i collected the visa the very nice lady there told me on arrival and before the first 90 days i have to go to Immigration to do a Landing Report, basically telling the immigration i am now in Thailand and register my address and show them my bank book to confirm I have now moved the THB800,000 to thailand. This is the first i have ever heard of this requirement and cannot find any reference to it on the internet at all, in forums or official web sites. Does anyone have any idea on this??? Or is this just the normal 90 day reporting that i have misunderstood?

Although i will be retired in Thailand, i will travel frequently and therefore should not have to do the 90 day report unless i do stay in one period longer than 90 days...correct?

thanks your input will be appreciated in advance.

Embassy was wrong as there is no requirement to move money until three months before you wish to apply for extension of stay inside Thailand (and if using income never required). As for the 90 day reporting it would be the normal address reporting and unless you stay more than 90 days it is not required. Only if/when you exceed 90 days without leaving.

Lopburi3 is quite right. I obtained exactly the same O/A visa as you did, and there's no requirement to visit your local immigration office until 90 days have past. Nor is there any requirement to move your money to Thailand until 3 months before you apply for your first 1 year extension of permission to stay in Thailand. (That's if you go the capital route... no requirement to move the wodge to Thailand at all if you go the income route).

One thing you should know is if you leave Thailand and return just before your existing 1 year visa expires the immigration officer at the airport or border should stamp your passport with a further years permission to stay, so in effect you can get almost two years stay on the one year visa, (I did a one day hop down to Singapore just before my first visa expired, great fun but there are much cheaper options).

One other thing that you must be sure of is that the immigration officer at the airport or border stamps your passport for a full year... I didn't know that when I arrived the first time, and the guy only stamped my passport for 90 days, telling me to report at my local immigration office 90 days later... this caused me all manner of trouble until I managed to get this wrong stamp corrected.

Best of luck, I hope you have a great time here.

Your multi entry will cover all your departures & re-entries for the first year.

As already stated in previous posts an exit and return just prior to the expiry of the Visa date will give you a second year, it's when you begin your second year you will require a re-entry permit to keep the visa alive.

Single entry 1000 Baht Multi entry. 3800 Baht and purchased at Immigration.

You don't have to register your address with Immigration upon arrival, but, strictly speaking, the property owner does have to notify Immigration of your presence via form TM30. That said, my gf (now wife) omitted to do this when I moved out here on a multi-entry O-A visa in Oct 2008, but, to date, we haven't had that dreaded 3AM knock at our front door.....

I'm heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere!

I guess we've heard about notifying the local cops about one's presence -- even as we vacation to another province. Never heard anything bad happening if you failed to register.....
