Bars Close 13 July

Featured Replies

Planning to travel from Pattaya to Bangkok to visit the Irish Consulate on Wed 13th and staying overnight for the Craic. So many people telling me everywhere close/open ? So confusing all these closure dates. Do I go or do I stay ? Many thanks guys.

Why would they be closed on 13th ? Friday 15th is Big Buddha day and start of Buddhist Lent equivalent.

Are they closed the 15th?

Most likely to be closed on Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16

7-11 will be open

As will government offices be on the 15th and 18th.

Mario, do you know if the banks are open on the 15th?

7-11 will be open

Wrong, 7-11 and supermarkets don't sell either, even in Pattaya

So is there any way to confirm if there is definitely a Friday and Saturday closure all around ? If there is and it looks like it I think I'll book a flight and go away for the weekend, I need to do a visa run anyway.

Ask your bank. It might be that they are closed, but the ones in department stores and shopping centra might be open.

what on the 13th.?

The 13th is a normal day.

The 15th and 16th are regligious days, and the 18th is a substitute for the 16th for government workers. (They are free on that day).

7-11 will be open.

They just won't be selling alcohol on (more than likely) the 15th and 16th.

No alcohol sales on major Buddhist holidays, the 15th and 16th. Asarnha Bucha Day and Khao Pansa. Some places may sell alcohol but it will be illegal.

There is nothing to stop you from stocking up at the store beforehand if 2 alcohol free days in a row is too long for you.

Thanks for confirming.

Good point about the 2 days in a row, for me I mainly go out at the weekends, rarely during the working week and that makes quite a bit of difference in this case.

Why not knock the booze on the head for a couple of days and go fishing?

Knowing you were the font of all knowledge Mario I thought I would ask you rather than calling my bank.

I was actually expecting a large deposit to hit my account on the 15th, I wondered if there would be anyone in their HQ to process it.

I called the bank, first of all the guy said all branches would be open, then he said only some would be open, he then said it would be credited on the 15th, then said it would be credited on the 18th or 19th - I really don't like calling their "help lines".

Fishing without beer?

People often make this sort of remark for some reason. If somebody really wanted a drink this weekend they would either drink at home or join the motorcycle taxi riders with a bottle of whiskey at the roadside.

I enjoy dining out and having a glass of wine with my dinner, we have visitors from overseas and intended do go out for a meal and a drink at the weekend, is that so wrong?

We have visitors from overseas this weekend and planned to go out for dinner and a drink, I called our proposed venue, a five star hotel in Bangkok, and was advised that they were able to sell alcohol this weekend. I thought it strange but we will have to wait and see.

My sister in law who is a bank manager confirmed that large street branches of all banks will be closed but branches in malls will be open.

All bars in Pattaya are expected to be dry but at least one bar in BKK I checked with will be open as normal.

Truly! What an utterly sick suggestion.

Was planning to go out with my brother tonight, but my wife just told me she heard on tv 20 minutes ago, alcohol will stop being served at midnight this evening the 14th.

Hopefully it is just a suggestion from the authorities.

Oh, and no, this is not a trick from my wife to make me stay home.

;)

Went out anyway

All the bars seem to have operated as normal until late night.

With alcohol.

Ended up sitting drinking and talkin by one of these street/pavement bars until 4 am.

They operated all night as well, all along lower Sukhumvit.

Talked to the staff at Check Inn Garden bar/restaurant, and they will have open all weekend.

They probably will just camouflage the alcohol in special cups.

Seen this been done many other places before here.
