Former 'Suvivor' show producer to be extradited to Mexico for murder charges

LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) -- Former producer of TV show 'Survivor,' Bruce Beresford-Redman, is one step closer to being extradited to Mexico where he faces murder charges for allegedly killing his wife, prosecutors said Tuesday.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Jacqueline Cooljian on Tuesday ruled in favor of extraditing Beresford-Redman, but the final decision will be pending U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's decision, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The judge also ruled out the possibility of Beresford-Redman's 6-year-old daughter testifying on his behalf because exposure to the courtroom could result in a traumatic experience for her. However, the the girl's recorded statements during therapy sessions were allowed.

Beresford-Redman is accused of murdering his wife Monica, who was found dead on April 8 2010 in the sewer of the Moon Palace resort in Cancun, Mexico, where the couple was vacationing. A witness at the hotel reported seeing the couple arguing days before the murder, and Bruce - who reportedly had scratches on his body - was immediately named as the prime suspect.

Beresford-Redman left the country only a couple of days after the incident. He was later arrested at his Rancho Palos Verdes residence by the United States Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force and the FBI.

Mexico law states that a person convicted of homicide could be sentenced to a prison term between 12 and 30 years, but it may increase if Beresford-Redman is charged and then convicted of aggravated murder.

According to reports, Beresford-Redman had bought two life insurance policies for each member of his family just days before they left for Mexico. Bruce was the co-creator and executive producer of MTV's 'Pimp My Ride' and is a former producer of the hit CBS show 'Survivor.'
