Tuesday Is Judgement Day: Thai Election Commission

you dont know whats good for you but im happy to see the people have their saviour Taksin. In meantime I know whats best for my family and thats to get what we can out of here and before you say good riddance I think it will in end be poor who eventually will regret their stupidity.

If you feel that you and your family must leave, then that is your judgement call and I wish you the best. Hopefully, you will be able to provide for a similar standard of living whereever you relocate. The poor that you call stupid have nothing to lose. They are already poor. What the PTP offers is hope. When people only know poverty and are blocked from advancement because of the colour of their skin, or regional origins, or not coming from the "right" family, this is what happens.

You may find that if you have a Thai family with children, that you may soon have a taste of what some Thais endure every day. Relocate to some European nations and the chances of your children coming home crying after being bullied or called monkies is likely. Some kids will harass them because they are different. Also likely is that some idiots will assume your wife is a beer bar whore because she married a farang, particularly if she is younger than you. This is a hurtful ignorant assumption, but one that is widely held by people from outside of Thailand. She might be an educated woman as was the case of one of my friends and still get treated like a hooker. In this particular case, the woman is a US and UK qualified accountant. Because she is young looking and somewhat attractive, she gets the "treatment" at various foreign immigration desks when she travels on business. She's fed up of the assumptions. She audits books and is a decent person. Her bedmate is a cat. Yet, she is treated like some sort of riff raff. Your relocation may work for you, but it will be tough on the Thai part of the equation.

not really if you have money its not a big problem and I have lived in several parts of europe with my previous children. Fortunately we have enough to live anywhere we want in a style whilst nowhere near the big Brother Taksin is quite enough for anyone. It was anyway always planned that once our 2 children here get to 15 which is only a few years away they will continue their education in a western country or possibly Singapore.

If many red/PTP supporters are to be believed, Thaksin came from poor and humble beginnings, but through hard work, vision and intelligence, raised himself up to richest man in the land. Not that it is true of course, but if you believe that, as many reds do, it should inspire them to follow in his footsteps. Perhaps though it is easier to put your hand out.

Without doubt there are examples of the poor being held back in society, but there are also examples (no, not Thaksin) of people skimping, saving, getting educated, and becoming successful. It takes a lot of work though. A lot more work than it would were you born with a silver spoon in your mouth. That of course is true the world over. More so in Thailand than other places? For sure. But it's still not impossible to rise. Should it be easier? For sure. Will it get easier in the near future? Not likely. Will PTP help in this regard? Not likely either. So, all that said, perhaps the poor should forget about waiting for society to change, stop demanding short term fixes like handouts/loans that only dig them deeper into the hole, and have a go at working to the top, because the harsh truth is that is the only way they'll get there.

When the poor of Thailand become wealthy as hoped/promised, thus leaving no poor class, the bordering countries poor will migrate in the tens of thousands across the borders to the promised land. This has and is being endured in America, parts of Europe, Scandinavian countries, etc.

There is no quick fix forthcoming (not even in 8 years) until the majority of the population realize that good luck charms, crooked politicians, the lotto, Monks, magic potions, etc will not change their life for the better. The masses thru hard work and cooperation, to rid the country of its many illegal dealings and immoral characters and their way of life is a first step.

It would appear, when a good man has shown on the scene, the impatience of the masses negate any good that they propose or may have accomplished.

She did not swear a false oath

It appears not.

"nor did she willfully provide false information while under oath."

This is what is in dispute.

There are legitimate reports in the papers, including quotes,

stating that what she did say IN COURT was false in relation to the facts.

And that she could reasonable be expected to know this as she made the statements.

She has not yet been tried as to her intent, but that, though not yet proven in court, is somewhat self explanatory. This case was likely left as a sword of Damocles and warning to steer clear of causing trouble, a warning clearly ignored.

How then can anyone claim she committed perjury?

Because the quoted court records show she gave false information while under oath in the court. Very simple actually.

But she is not convicted of this... yet.

Not convicted of this.... yet? <deleted>?????

THE CASE IS CLOSED. There was no perjury. Here's what a newspaper opposed to Yingluck wrote;

The Securities and Exchange Commission has insisted that its proceedings against Yingluck Shinawatra for her involvement in the Shin Corporation Plc's share scandal, is final and over.

The SEC has submitted all evidence to the DSI and the National Anti-Corruption Commission. The SEC has completed its part concerning the securities law," it said. As regards the request for investigation into Yingluck's statement in 2006 that the Shinawatra family had no involvement in two funds associated with Win Mark Co Ltd and Shin Corp despite later proof that Thaksin and Pojaman owned the funds, the SEC said that it could not do so. It said that Yingluck's statement came during a normal questioning and it could not be counted as a testimony.

It is malicious and false to claim perjury when there were no charges, no court proceedings on the charges and no judgement rendered. You may imagine an act of perjury occurred, but perjury is a legal term and the conditions to satisfy that term have not been met.

If someone accuses someone else of perjury that's not malicious or false. At first it may just be 'yet unproven either way'. There were many news items on 'possible perjury by Ms. Yingluck'.

"UPDATE : 13 June 2011

The Securities and Exchange Commission, or SEC, has announced that, despite committing perjury while testifying during her brother's assets concealment case, Yingluck Shinawatra did not violate the 1992 Securities and Stock Exchange Law."

For reasons beyond comprehension, and to the amazement of many people closely following the case, the SEC failed to grapple with the key issue in question and strayed off course. In its statement, the SEC said that since Ms Yingluck had held less than 5% shares in Shin Corp, she was not legally required to file any transaction reports with the commission. It also said that both the Department of Special Investigation and the Office of the Attorney-General had decided not to pursue charges against both Thaksin and Khunying Pokemon for not submitting reports about the company's shareholding structure to the SEC, after the Supreme Court's assets seizure verdict."

BANGKOK, 21 June 2011 – The Network against Amnesty for Thaksin has filed a complaint with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) against Pheu Thai prime ministerial candidate Yingluck Shinawatra over her false testimony to the Court."

Maybe innocent until proven guilty, but charged none the less

If she is elected and becomes PM then Thailand can look forward to a bright future. A PM with no political experience but who has committed perjury and MP's who are terrorists. Amazing Thailand indeed.

When was the PM designate convicted of perjury?

He didn't say "convicted of". He said "committed".

She submitted false documents and lied to the SEC. They didn't follow it through because "she didn't have to submit the documents" and "she wasn't under oath".

I recall a former US president's contribution to a notable US government enquiry into the US's only foreign-spawned back-yard terrorism outrage as being given 'off the record' and behind closed doors. In fact these were the ONLY conditions where said 'testimony' was ever going to be given.

Nice hit Yingluck. I believe the correct baseball term is 'safe!'

Who are these punters spouting about her lamentable inexperience? She's as wily as any of her peers IMHO.
