I know all the shops for used books in English. What about used books in Thai?

Novels mostly, but some non-fiction would be nice.

Bangkok, please, Sukhumvit area?

Thanks!

I don't know about Sukhumvit but there is a huge selection of used Thai fiction at Chatuchak market .

Really? I've been in a number of shops there and everything I saw was big, hardback non-fiction. Like architecture, design, computers, coffee table books and very expensive, unlike most other things there.

Could you narrow it down a bit? What's the non-fiction close to?

Elite Books near villa on sukhumvit at 33/1.

Dasa, see banners on this forum or google it. i have a soft spot for elite, it is cluttered, charmless and disorganized in an enjoyable way that chatujak is not. ah, i see you said english. never mind

There is a place near Siam BTS. On Hard Rock cafe side of Sukhumvit, going towards BMK, under cover of shops. Looks like a market stall, has a lot of books. That is all I know, as I have never stopped to look. But if you are in the area, might be worth a look?

Don't Thai people read? :whistling: Or maybe they only buy new books?:D

Hello, anybody?

If you are looking to buy Thai fiction, then i assume you can read Thai, which means you can also write and speak it.

So would it not be obvious to ask a Thai person, or ask on a Thai forum?

Well, no- reading Thai doesn't mean you can also write it.

To the OP, I'd suggest dropping into Dasa- between Suk Soi 26 and 28- and asking them if they know any. Far as I recall, the owners and folk working there are pretty well versed with places like Chatuchak and would probably know of some stalls selling Thai books.

Well, all the ones I've asked in Trad just look at me like I just came down from the mother ship! Many here have never even been to Bangkok. Asking in Trad where to buy a used novel or biography in Thai is like asking where I can buy prosciutto and a bottle od Sangiovese.

When I get to BKK next week, certainly I will ask a Thai. I was simply attempting a bit of recon to save time when I get there.

I think one forum in my life is more than enough, but out of curiosity.....?

I think you're correct. I do remember that Elite had a few in Thai since the new owners took over.

Rumblecat- I'll ask when I get to Dasa.

Hello, anybody?

Oh stop screaming!...Yes Thai people read too, mostly before bedtime because we're so busy with everything else during the daytime.

And not many thais would want to come online here and wait ticktocking all night to answer all your farangs' questions.

Anyway.....here is my random act of kindnesssmile.gif

If you live in Trad, why don't you order them online? There are many online used-book stores, and many of them will give free shipping (anywhere in Thailand) if order more than 500-600 bths.

Ok browse your heart out… Just to name a few here (if youcan read thai)

First, thank you for your reply.

Next, it wasn't screaming. That would better be accomplished here by using all capitals, which you will see I did not do, nor did I even do when I just wrote, 'all capitals'. It was imploring. And it worked, didn't it?

Well, I was hoping that many of the, farangs, as you put it, had friends or partners who might be able to aid in my quest. Not so unreasonable, yes? And, again, it worked, didn't it? You wanted to come online and answer our silly questions.

And why wouldn't Thai have a desire to come online and answer "farangs'" questions? I'd be happy to answer the questions of Thai online. And have, thank you very much.

Unfortunately, I never order online. The websites look great, but I never use my credit card on the internet and I really like to pick up, touch, examine and sample a book that I am going to buy. Part of the enjoyment.

So, once again, thank you for taking the time to reply, albeit a bit rudely, and provide the list of websites. There were some amazing books there and I'd love to buy a few, but the sites only allow ordering online. How sad. Hopefully some other "farang" can use them to great advantage.

So, I ask again, where in Bangkok can one go to find a good selection of used books in Thai?
