Fiancee Visa Granted , But.....

Featured Replies

Hi all , My fiancee has got her Visa for the UK but i am a little confused . she is coming over on the 27th July but on her visa it is only valid for 6 moths and says no work or public funds i understand the public funds part but i assumed that she could work ? and its only valid for 6 months ? is this the time we have to get married ?

any advice would be great :jap:

also , when we get married in the UK , do we have to go through the whole visa process again ???

Yes, a fiance visa is valid for 6 months during which time you must marry and she applies for Further Leave to Remain. See here.

If you haven't married by the time the visa expires, she must leave the UK. It is possible to obtain an extension but she must apply before the current visa expires, show good reasons why the marriage has not yet taken place and satisfactory evidence that it will take place within a reasonable time period.

She cannot work until she has FLR.

wow and i thought the hard work was done already . thanks for the info

The hardest bit has been done! It has been accepted that you have a genuine relationship and are expected to marry!

You will have to complete paperwork for FLR but much of the information will be similar to the marriage visa application. The hardest bit is to find the crazy fee that will be payable with the application.

Congratulations!

I don't understand why people don't get married in Thailand then apply for a settlement visa, i would have thought that it is easier, Than getting a spouse visa and then have to apply for a settlement visa. unless they have never been to Thailand

For some people it's not convenient to get married in Thailand. ;)

Once in the UK it's pretty easy...just cost of the marriage and the expense of FLR :(

To the OP - book your wedding and if you can afford it book your appointment at a UKBA PEO for a couple of days later...I got married on the 18th May, my wife had her appointment in Croydon PEO on the Friday. Her new ID card came in the post by the following Thursday. The week after we had her appointment to get a National Insurance Number which again arrived about a week later, plastic card a week after that.
