VALDIVOSTOK, RUSSIA (BNO NEWS) -- At least four people were killed during a helicopter crash in Russia's Far East, officials said Monday.

According to Russia's Emergencies Ministry, a Mi-8 helicopter crashed in Kamchatka early Monday morning while landing near the village of Billings, RIA Novosti reported. In addition to the four fatal victims, two other passengers were reported injured.

A spokesman of the ministry said one of the helicopter's engines shut down while the pilot was landing, causing the crash. The helicopter was flying along the northern border of Russia's Chukotka autonomous district inspecting radio-navigation posts.

All of the injured have been transported out of the crash site and were receiving medical treatment. Local authorities, meanwhile, are currently carrying out an investigation into the incident.
