LASHKARGAH, AFGHANISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least 20 people were killed, including 18 members of the Taliban and two police officers, in two separate incidents in Afghanistan, officials said Tuesday.

During the first attack, insurgents raided police checkpoints in the Musazai area of Musa Qala district in Afghanistan's southwestern province of Helmand, provincial governor spokesman Daud Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News. According to Ahmadi, two police officers were killed during the attack, but security forces returned fire and killed 14 militants and wounded another eight.

In a separate incident, insurgents attacked police and damaged one of their vehicles in the Khas Uruzgan district of Uruzgan province. According to Ahmad Mudassir, the governor's spokesman, four militants were killed during the operation, while three police officers were wounded.

On Monday, a bomb blast in the Alizai area of Nawzad district killed two children, aged 9 and 13. The Taliban was blamed for the attack but they have not claimed responsibility.
