Thai Man Marrying A Non Thai.

Featured Replies

Sorry for the cross border raid ladies. I know what hoops I had to jump through, mainly around proving I could support my significant other.

A friend of a friend , I know what some people think of that bit  , called round the other day. Her friend wants to marry a Burmese woman. He want's to know what she will need to show at the local Amphur's office. So for you ladies who married here what did you need?

The non Thai partner will need a affirmation freedom of marriage from their Embassy.

As far as I know Burmese Embassy doesn't give them.

My Father in-law is married to a Burmese, only in Temple.

Can not register in Amphur.

I have seen reports of price tag for such approval by Embassy so it may not be 100%.

Thanks folks, why does the greasing their palms not surprise me?

Hi Mosha

I think its quite different for Burmese than it is for western women, sorry. Maybe ask at the MFA?

i think interestedobserver maybe has info? i cant remember. somewhere in the visa forum last year there was a complete set of threads for burmese getting married /or not, since it is very difficult for them to get permission to marry other then temple ceremony only...

try asking in the visa area, cause it does come up ....

As Lopburi stateted, it might be possible to get affirmation but it will cost a lot of money from some reports.

Best might be to contact an NGO working with Burmese refugees, Like the BBC (Burmees Border Consortium). They should be able to give you some more information or direct you to another organization.

Just had a thought, and as I live near the border. Burma/Myanmar is just a 30 minute boat trip from Ranong. Perhaps he should consider taking her back over the river and marrying her there. All he needs to visit Burma/Myanmar is his IC card.

Check first withthe BBC. I'm not sure, but it may be that Burma doesn't like their nationals marrying to a foreigner.
