Lenient Year-Long Education Visas In Chiang Mai?

Featured Replies

Hi.

I'd like to get a year-long education visa so I can stay in Thailand.

Are there any courses I can take based out of the Chiang Mai area that will give me one but also allow me to travel around and not be too serious about the course? I'm really not interested in the educational oportunities so much as I am staying in Thailand. Flexibility is as/more important as the topic.

I'm thinking something like a once-a-week to three-times-a-week class would be nice.

Maybe massage or meditation class?

Any advice welcome.

4 hours a week is not hard for Thai Language courses.

If 2% of your time is too much...

There are several post with a similar vein do a little searching maybe you will get some ideas.

Chiang Mai University has a Thai course, that will get you an ED visa.

You are required to study about 4 hours a week, at an approved school. Indeed it doesn't need to be a Thai language course, as long as the course is recognized. This the school can tell you.

You will only get extensions of stay for 90 day at a time, after wich you extend for another 90 days upon proof of still studying. Only a full, regular university student would get a 1 year extension of stay.

I believe the minimum study requirement is two hours per week in the classroom, ie on one day per week, plus two hours home study. I remember Macwalen of Walen School posting something to this effect. Double-check with the schools you're interested in.

Sit in on a trial lesson at some schools, because even if language study is not your priority you may want to choose a school that you find not too boring.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
