I taught university students for three years, not English. I think I have a pretty good understanding of Thai university students. I also taught Western university students. I think I have a pretty good understanding of Western university students. They all (most) have an understanding of the term mia noi or in the West. mistress. I am not now nor was I ever handsome and wealthy yet I was married to two world class beautiful women. I slept with them both on the first night or our acquaintance. I never figured it out.

Women are difficult to understand; young women even more so. I don't wonder about it any more.

I have a myriad of transportation vehicles, depends on what I need or want to do. I ride my Trek mountain bike frequently and love it. Part of my daily exercise as I ride to fitness. I have a big cc sport bike and ride it too, Heck I even have a car. However I do not care what a Thai woman would think of me in or on any of them. That's a western material insecurity thought process. I meet more people riding my bicycle quite honestly and have good friends I ride with. Oh Yeah, I still ride the bus frequently. Easy and quite relaxing.

I agree with the forum poster Travelmate, there really is not much left in this thread. Some interesting banter but WAY off tangent however it does assist in understanding the thought process(if possible) of Olaf and KerryK's.

After browsing web forums on and off I have come to a few general conclusions about the 2 of them. 1)They behave(or troll if you will) as if they are new here to Thailand and have on the "Woman all want me" rose colored glasses. 2) They clearly have no idea how to meet a woman to just meet a woman. They come across as being completely driven by "I want sex" now or I will leave hence the driving question in 2 forum threads about how to ask. This drive a bigger question about why they left their home country to come here 3) They are extremely bored which has its on set of issues to contend with.

Andrew almost all of your posts have a real or implied anti age sentiment in them and that is what makes you such an easy target and relevant to this thread. There is an old Aussie guy coming to Thailand for the time of his life with a younger woman. About the only place he will meet with anti age prejudice is on Thai Visa. The rest of Thailand has the odds stacked in his favor.

You and others have tried to post scare stories to the old guy but the real message is Thailand is a paradise for older men. My Visa's and dealings with Thai immigration take a total of 1900 baht and 25 minutes a year. How long do yours take? No witches from Mukdahan have made my life a living hell. I have been happy and content here for years with a plentiful supply of good food, fresh women and lovely activities. I don't know if many of the ladies who have shared my company have been stolen by another man, it's just not that important to me. They are like streetcars there will be another along in 5 minutes.

I can ride a bike and I do every day in my condo it's cooler than going outside. The others on my floor warn their children to look both ways when going outside because the Farang is riding his bike again.

I get a pass on most things because of my age. I am eccentric. Thai people respect age more than Western people and I take advantage of it. That is one of the reasons I am here.

With the exception of the long and lean Thai guys togged out in mega expensive Lycra outfits and with 0 body fat riding ultra expensive racing bicycles with their racing club, riding a bike in Thailand is not cool. At 40 you can't get away with not being cool. At 60 everything I do is not cool so I can.

I know I should go quietly into the sunset, me and granny sipping our tea on the porch of the family homestead. But it didn't happen. Granny found a plastic surgeon and a Georgia cracker with more bucks than brains and I found Thai young women. We are both happy. The Aussie that is coming here will also find love or a reasonable facsimile. But it is just his first Thai lady. Can most people stop after eating just one potato chip?

Being a genuine person, my friend worried she had an accident or something, and spent the afternoon trying to find her. He never did. Never got on the plane, never took the tour. He bumped into her a week later out on a date with another guy. She didn't see him, but he overheard her telling him about Chiang Mai. What I think is relevant to this thread is the "all the women want me thing." The new Aussie who is coming if not shepherded too much will see this.

I never found the bar scene very attractive because of the obvious but the bus or friend or restaurant thing is truly impressive for a Western man. (You can debate good girl vs bad girl vs Thai girl till the cows come home.)

I have friends in Koh Chang and have visited several times. I never saw one spot where I felt threatened. Not that I went EVERYWHERE, but the general sense of the place was casual, friendly, a quiet party always around the corner.
