KUNDUZ CITY, AFGHANISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least seven people were killed in northern Afghanistan on early Tuesday morning during a suicide attack against a private security company's guest house which was being used by a German aid group, officials said.

The attack occurred at around 4 a.m. local time in Kunduz City, which is located in Afghanistan's northern province of Kunduz, when three suicide bombers attacked private security company Kaboora, deputy provincial police chief Col. Abdul Rahman Aqtash told Pajhwok Afghan News. Kaboora has been providing security for GIZ, a German aid organization.

According to Pajhwok's report, the first suicide bomber killed four security guards and injured 10 others after an explosive-filled vehicle detonated at the front of the security company's guest house. Following the first blast, two other attackers entered the guest house and opened fire. The exchange of fire lasted for about three hours.

After the attack, seven bodies were retrieved from the building, including three which belonged to the suicide bombers. Among the injured was a female doctor and another civilian living in nearby residences.

The explosions damaged several houses surrounding the area and, in addition, a building belonging to Afghanistan's National Environmental Protection Agency was completely destroyed.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack through its spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, although the militant group basically claims responsibility for all attacks in the country. The Taliban are known to issue claims of responsibility also when the attack was carried out by other militant groups.
