Rice Administration Department

THE DEPT. OF RICE ADMINISTRATION WILL BE ESTABLISHED

The Cabinet has approved the proposal of setting up a Rice Administration Department (กรมการข้าว).

Deputy Spokeswoman of the Prime Minister’s Office SANSANEE NARKPONG (ศันสนีย์ นาคพงษ์) said the proposal was suggested by the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC). The Department of Rice Administration will administer numerous of rice issues in Thailand such as promoting Thai rice products and performing research and development on rice. Various rice strains will be preserved, developed or processed in order to increase their values. The department will also look after the well-beings of Thai rice farmers.

The Rice Administration Department will also help coordinate with other rice-related agencies in a more integrated manner. It will also educate new technologies, as well as distribute accurate and prompt agricultural information.
