October 27, 200520 yr CHIANG MAI ZOO WILL BUILD THE LARGEST AQUARIUM IN ASIA Chiang Mai Zoo is to build the largest aquarium in Asia with a budget of 300 million baht. Director Sophon Dumnui (โสภณ ดำนุ้ย) said the zoo has already been allocated the budget and plans to request an additional sum of 600 million baht to finance the construction of two tunnels -- one to display freshwater fish and the other for marine fish. October 14, 200817 yr I don't think anything went through. Maybe they counldn't skim enough profit off the top. Poor thing too since all the big cats were looking forward to eating fish once somchai messed up the PH balance and killed off a whole tank.
October 14, 200817 yr It's completed, although invitation-only at the moment. Expect a public opening soon. http://www.chiangmaiaquarium.com/
October 14, 200817 yr I'm sure there was something in the papers the other day - a pic of a guy walking through 'worlds largest' pond. 300bill baht or some such...
October 15, 200817 yr im hungry .... and i love fish i mean that Hows school going" Supposedly here in Atlanta we presently have the worlds largest aquarium. 4 whale sharks and some beluga whales are the main attraction, but I like the 400 pound groupers, very tasty. My lovely thai wife has dreams of cooking half the fish in the attraction, but then she keeps telling me shes going make tom yum outta my king snake. But I do like aquariums so it'll be a good place to take my grand child to when he gets a couple of years older.

May 20, 200916 yr Any update on this aquarium,is it worth a visit ?Nothing on the site. http://www.chiangmaiaquarium.com/en/Aquarium.htm Went a couple of months ago. Signage poor, written in bad English & often place where it is difficult to read. Not bad but not as good as the one in Siam Paragon in BKK.

It's a spectacular trip, but expensive. It's an awesome spectical to see a 15 foot shark come leaping out of the water to attack the seal only 20 feet behind the boat. I'll have to visit the Chiang Mai aquarium when I return. It usually takes a few years to set up a proper display with all the exibits.
May 20, 200916 yr 700ft glass tunnels. Does this freak anyone else out? Thai construction, Jaws 3. Come on people.

May 22, 200916 yr To have a large acquarium is another good thing for Chiang Mai. It gives people something else to see.The web site just does nothing to make me want to go there. Photos are low quality...But I will go and see for sure. I love acquariums.
