Indian Air Force fighter jet accident kills 2

LUCKNOW, INDIA (BNO NEWS) -- At least two people were killed after an Indian Air Force fighter jet crashed on Thursday, officials said.

The accident occurred at around 12 p.m. local time some 250 kilometers (155 miles) from Lucknow, India, an officer from the Central Air Command told the Indo-Asian News Service.

The Jaguar fighter jet crashed in a field at the village of Ferozpur Dhilai in the town of Madhuban, located in the Mau district of India's Uttar Pradesh. The crash killed a girl who was in the field. She was identified as Rooma. The pilot was also killed during the accident and was identified as Flight Lieutenant S. Pandey.

According to Deputy Inspector General Azamgarh L. Ravikumar, the aircraft was on a training exercise when it crashed in the field.

Emergency teams arrived at the crash site, and according to reports, an Indian Air Force helicopter recovered the pilot's body. In addition, it ordered an investigation into the case, but the reason of the accident remains uncertain.
