LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) -- Former NFL star and actor Bubba Smith on Wednesday was found dead at his Los Angeles home at the age of 66.

According to local police, Smith's caretaker found him at his Baldwin Hills home. The cause of his death is still uncertain, but the Los Angeles County coroner's office said Smith's death was apparently from natural causes.

Smith, of Beaumont, Texas, was selected first overall in the 1967 NFL draft by the Baltimore Colts after a successful collegiate career in Michigan State University. With the Colts, the two-time Pro-Bowler won Super Bowl V in 1970. He was later traded to the Oakland Raiders and finished his career with the Houston Oilers.

After his professional football career, Smith began acting and landing small roles in movies and TV shows. He is commonly remembered for portraying Moses Hightower in the comedy movie series 'Police Academy' in which his large size - 6 foot 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 300 pounds - was especially highlighted.
