I'm using an iFox air card for internet access via my laptop. The speed is fairly good but every few minutes the internet cuts out - if I hover over the signal strength icon it says "no internet access" although the modem is still showing as conected and the signal strength is full. Once this happens I have to physically disconnect/reconnect the USB dongle and let the laptop redetect it.

My son is using the same type of IFox USB and doesn't have any problem at all. We both have exactly the same spec Sony Vaio laptops running Windows 7 Home Premiium and if we swap the USB dongles over it works fine in his laptop and his dongle gives the same "no internet access" message in mine so the problem must be down to a setting in my laptop. The USB dongle is an Huawei EC1270 and the iFox logo says its a CDMA 311A

I've tried comparing our internet settings and can't see any difference between the two laptops and I have the latest versions of Adobe Flash and Java. I use Kaspersky for virus protection but so does my son so I don't think that is causing the problem.

Does anybody have any ideas where else I can look for a solution?

I had the same problem you have now.

I gave up on the dongle - I did not even bother going back to TukCom to get a refund the thought of the hassle and time wasted was too much to bare.

I guess it is a faulty unit if both Laptops are the same set up.

Probably the one I had was faulty for sure and it was my own fault - I had the chance of a more expensive DTAC unit and opted for the cheap charlie route - I know someone with the DTAC unit and its way better than the iFox.

But I could be completely wrong. ? I now use the Wifi supplied by the building I rent in and live with its drop outs and strange quirks....

Your post has me totally confused. You use terms like air-card and dongle interchangeably, provide scant details re: the type of mobile data service(s) you are using and say you and your son are using the same type of device.

Can you take a few minutes to more clearly state your current situation:

Your aircard: make, model, SIM, service provider. Feel free to add more details rather than fewer.

Son's aircard: make, model, SIM, service provider. Feel free to add more details rather than fewer.

It looks like these aircards are different but both operate on CDMA networks?

Based on what little coherent information you've provided my best guess is that you have some sort of driver conflict/issue, on your PC.

First update Windows, then maybe try to remove all remnants of either/both drivers, through Windows perhaps. Reboot, then re-install the driver for the aircard/dongle/stick/thingamabob/doohicky, then re-insert the dongle (that's sounds more perverted when I read it).

If my post has you totally confused then I can only think that you're easily confused.

I clearly stated that the device I'm using is branded as an iFox CDMA 311A USB. If the term "dongle" confuses you, try this definition from webopedia:

A 3G or WiMAX USB dongle is a portable device that attaches to a USB port to enable a PC to connect to WiMAX and (or) 3G networks.

The actual maker of the USB device is Huawei and the model type is EC 1270.

The sim card inside this device is labelled as an iFox CDMA 3G.

This is the link to the providers network http://www.ifoxonline.com/ where it quite clearly describes this device as an aircard. Mines the white one on the right-hand side.

You asked for details of my sons' aircard, which part of "My son is using the same type of IFox USB" confused you into thinking we had something different?

I download all Windows updates on a daily basis.

"It looks like these aircards are different but both operate on CDMA networks?" - No, read what I wrote again,"My son is using the same type of IFox USB".

The drivers are contained on the USB and install the first time you plug the USB in. I've previously tried using Windows to update the driver but it says I have the latest version.

I would have thought that Windows device manager would have flagged any conflicts but as I'm out of ideas I may as well try uninstalling and re-installing the drivers.
