Yes you can take your car across if it's registered to you and you get the correct permits to take the car across. Much like a passport for your car. You'll also need insurance which you should be able to get on the bridge. Keep in mind that you will be driving a "left-handed" car in a "right-handed" country.

Its much easier to park your car in Nong Khai. Just before you reach the bridge there is a guarded car park on the left. It's pretty cheap and they will drive you to the bridge and pick you back up.

Car rental in Vientiane is fairly cheap. The daily price includes driver, or it did the last time I rented - a few years back.

What a load of B%ll#@*s . Some people really do make me laugh.

Are you for real? What experience have you REALLY had of driving in Laos?

I have been driving in Laos for the last 8 years, had 3 minor accidents, 2 involving people and didn't pay 1 kip to anyone.

Be warned though, driving in Laos is a dangerous pastime, you can get insurance on the Lao side from AGL office just on the right hand side after immigration control.

If you do get involved in an accident you just call the insurance company and they will deal with it. And they are very good at what they do.

Don't take any notice of scaremongering and enjoy your trip.
