I have to cross a border for my 2nd entry and figured why not make a trip of it with my girlfriend (She is Thai not that it matters between Laos and Cambodia but I know Thais can be very judgmental towards the two)

.

I have two choices Laos or Cambodia. I have 5 days total and I live in Bangkok.

I have thought about Laos because you can take a night train from Humplopong station all the way into Laos. I heard its reasonably priced and somewhat nice for dining. I heard that it is also not as exciting as Siam Riep.

The second idea was Siam Riep Angkor Wat so my girlfriend can see the greatness of empires past and the relaxed climate it has for a town. The problem I have with Siam Riep is booking a company that is not going to pull visa scams or taxi scams. I would like to know if anyone knows a decent travel agent that can do door to door( I live in Phya Thai Samsenni area so Koh San is out). I don't want to hassle with the touts from Poi pet to Siam Riep. I already have a good place to stay in Siam Riep so that is not an issue. I would like input on both these places any and all advice is welcome.

Thanks

Richard

never been to humplopong, but I know that Angkor Wat is the bane of any Thai girl's existence. Very very sunny and NO shade in sight.

Good Luck

Lol sorry my Thai spelling is horrible Hualamphong train station in China town. It has as direct of a route as you can get to Vientiene(Reasonable too 800bht for 1C sleeper).

I know the sun part they are just like Vietnamese women in that sense. I figure one day of temple site seeing and the rest of the time she can spend shopping and hanging out with my friends Cambodian girlfriend.

I am just trying to be efficient in my border crossing Good value, ease of transportation and cultural significance.

Any Thai girl (if she has ANY cultural inclination) will love Angkor Wat. The brighter ones will wear a hat or a take a brolly !!

Siem Reap is like a European town with a great variety of restaurants and bars. It is well-geared to tourists and your Thai G/F should be well received. It is usually the Thais that are concerned about Cambodia because of their indoctrination.

My Thai lady enjoyed Angkor Wat, we tramped all over it for two days. Well brimmed hat is a necessity for her and for you, but no other problem. She is from Phuket so Khmer speech is not for her. But she enjoyed Luang Prabang far more, chatting away with the locals and having a great time with the trinkets, food, temples.

suggest u fly up from Bangkok -Siem Reap and use the time u have

get the three day pass and arrange a tuk tuk for about $20/day so u have transport. very easily arranged anywhere up there. You also get free entry after 4 pm each day. Wake up for the sunrise and then look around, back to hotel from 11-3 or so then head back for sunset. Different place each day.

She does not need a visa and gets 15 days free. you will get urs at the airport ( $20)

Vientiane is boring but very laid back.

I've spent some time in Vientiane and found it to be quite enjoyable, nice locals, great western food and a stream of back-packers that are always fun to talk to.

I'm going to Siam Reap in a couple of weeks, looking forward to making a comparison.
