I'm building a house in Jomtien and need to put my dog in a kennel for a few days (maybe a week) when I go upcountry next week. I'd like to take him with me but I'm flying--not driving. Anyone know of a good kennel near Jomtien or Chonburi province?

K9 are a large training kennel in Huay Yai, very near you (take the Huay Yai Road off Sukhumvit after Chaiyapreuk and follow the signs) where they also board dogs in proper kennels with runs, etc. (Tel 038 754 438).

I don't have any personal experience of K9 and I know a number of vets offer boarding, but I also know that many have very limited facilities and your dog may be kept in a small cage for most of the day. I'd recommend you do your homework first.

I'd recommend CHUMSAI DOG CARE.

Granted it's not in Jomtien, however if you don't want to do the drive.

Approximately 15-20 minutes up north, just passing Grating Lai.

The owner will come and pick up your dog for a small fee.

Thanks for the replies hoop and LC. A friend mentioned a large boarding facility at Huay Yai that he used a few years ago. He was impressed with the football-pitch size of the communal area where non-aggressive dogs were allowed to play most of the day. Each dog was put in its own large, comfortable enclosure at night and were well-treated by the staff. He said it was more like a 'dog ranch' than a kennel.

His directions indicated the place was located by taking the Huay Yai turning, then a left just before the railroad track and was a short distance further on the left. I vaguely remember he mentioned it was just before a gun club or shooting range-something like that, anyway. Does this sound like the kennel you spoke of? Thanks

Thanks MTH. I'll check out Chumsai when I go to Laem Chabang this weekend. Their website looks like they take good care of their "guests" :)

I used Chumsai erlier this year and was very happy with the service, and got a good feeling of the owner and staff that I meet.

Also my dog was in great shape when I picked her up. So yes, they do take good care of their "guests". :)

Have boarded her at a vet clinic in Jomtien once before, and won't do that again.

The other boarding facility you mention in Hua Yai is most likely BorderJack Dog Resort.

Looks good from their website, but I haven't been there myself, so can't comment on it.

The description of the "large boarding facility at Huay Yai" is correct, but the directions are a bit off! The gun club/shooting range is actually just after the railway line - it used to be better signposted so many used this as the best "signpost" for Huay Yai, but it would be best just to ignore it now.

Directions are: take the Huay Yai turning and go straight over the railway line and keep going straight, past Huay Yai town hall (on the left, with a large sign in front) and Huay Yai temple (on the right, soon after the town hall). After the temple take the first turn left (marked with a K9 sign) and the kennels are a few hundred metres after the junction on your left hand side. About 10 minutes from the Sukhumvit Road.

I don't know anything about BJ Dog Resort, but it is in Khao Mai Kaew, not Huay Yai. My only observation, based on their web-site, is that their runs look very small and there is little or no shade in the dog park which would worry me (as well as their claim to be "the newest and finest dog facility in Thailand", which I rather doubt!).

Thanks for the better directions LC. I've since learned my friend used the Huay Yai facility more than ten years ago and that place may no longer even exist (or maybe moved). Anyway, Chumsai checked out OK and tomorrow I'll visit K9 and decide which one to use later.

Thanks for the replies...
