Finnish man loses 600,000 Baht’s worth of cash and valuables as his apartment is broken into.

A suspicious theft now from the Mosaic Lexus Apartment located in Soi Day Night 2 :o in South Pattaya. Mr. Timo Porttinen aged 53 from Finland has rented a room for 3 months at the apartment complex. On Thursday Night he went out with his boyfriend Khun Witsootishai aged 24 and returned back to his room to find his room had been broken into and his room safe had been opened. There were no signs of a forced entry and it appeared that someone had used a key to enter the room and open the safe.

We spoke with Mr. Porttinen who revealed to us the true extent of his loss. He told us that he lost 6,000 Euros, 25,000 Baht, a gold ring valued at 36,000 Baht and a Cartier wrist watch worth 250,000 Baht. Police Lieutenant Colonel Manot from Pattaya Police Station was assigned to the case and begun his investigation at the man’s apartment. He noticed that the entrance to the complex featured an electronic door entry system and CCTV cameras. Police believe that because entry to the room was made with a key, it appears that this was most probably an inside job and the investigation is concentrating on that particular theory. For now the man’s valuables and the suspect or suspects in this case remain at large.

Hehehhee "I learned a thing or two from Charlie don't you know, better stay away from DayNight 2 road"

I love my neighbourhood, there's always people hanging around that will feed you, bed you, rob you, kill you or all of the above !

Sucky part is, I was going to recommend those apartments to one of my buddies from here. I almost moved in myself last summer (when they had finished the first renovations). Maybe it's a good thing I found a cheaper place nearby.

BTW: BritMaveric, what's the big idea of trying to knock the Rain in Pattaya thread back down to page 2 again ? Huh ? :D

and havn't you heard of tax ?

people are bringing huge amounts of untaxed $ into LOS daily, thanks to the 500 euro note u can now fit 50,000 euros in just your wallet.

it's not easy to get a truly secure deposit box in Pattaya, forget the banks most are not interested or full, leaving the private places & hotels and there's always the risk of an employee helping themselves. ( despite claims to the contrary the box keys can be duplicated )

What is it with all these people travelling with huge amounts of cash?  Haven't they heard of banks?

Does anyone understand the logic of this?

Many hotel safe boxes can be padlocked. not rocket science except to drunk stupid people.

Never keep anymore cash or loose valuables in a room than you are comfortable in losing,

Those little personal electronic room safes are a joke, they can just be hauled off and opened at leisure some place else. :o

Wealthy Norwegian victim of safe thief: Nearly 1 million baht worth of goods stolen

n9-640.jpg

Police were called to a room at Mozart Mansion on Soi Day Night 2 in South Pattaya on October 27, where they found Timo Tapani Porttinen, 53, waiting with a 24-year-old companion, Visutichai Silaklai, a native of Khon Kaen.

Timo Tapani Porttinen (right) and his companion, Visutichai Silaklai, report to police that nearly 1 million baht in valuables was stolen from Timo’s safe.

Inside the room, which was on the top floor of the eight-story apartment block, the officers found that a small safe had been broken open and emptied of its contents. The room had also been ransacked. Police forensic experts were called in to check for fingerprints.

Porttinen told the officers that 6,000 euros, two diamond studded gold rings worth 72,000 baht, 25,000 baht in Thai banknotes, a Cartier watch worth 250,000 baht, a mobile phone worth 11,000 baht, a diamond studded gold bracelet worth over 200,000 baht and another gold bracelet worth 20,000 baht had been taken.

The Norwegian said that he wasn’t really bothered about the stolen valuables as he had 50 million euros in a bank account in Norway and one million baht in a Thai bank account. :o He was afraid that the thief might return and kill him and that is the reason why he notified police because he has to stay in Thailand for another three months with his boyfriend Visutichai before deciding whether to marry, as they had only known each other seven days. :D

Officers are still looking for the thief.
