Retirement Visa Extension

Featured Replies

I have a retirement visa expiring on the 9th of November. My permission to stay expires on November 8.

If I show up at the Immigration office at November 7 will that give me another 3 month of permitted stay. When do I

have to renew the Retirement Visa and when do I have to have the 800 T in the bank.

Thanks in advance :)

No you won't get another 3 months by visiting before the expiration dates, you should begin applying for a one year "Extension of Stay", not a visa, within 30 days prior to the expiration date.

Money should be in the bank 90 days before application if re-applying for an extension, 60 days for the firs application.

The 800,000 baht needs to be in a local Thai bank 60 days prior to the first retirement extension of stay, 90 days for subsequent extensions..

Thanks, I edited the post but I'm still not sure what the Op really has.

Yep. Not really sure what the OP has.

If a Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa he can do a border run before 9th Nov. and get another 90 days on entry.

He can apply for a 12 month extension from Immigration within the final 30 days of any 90 day permision to stay.

Money in the bank 60 days before first application.

We really need to know what he has.

Thanks for the replies. Earlier I had a Non Immigrant O Visa, but approx 9 month ago I applied for Retirement Visa, (extension of stay based on retirement ?). This will expire on November 9 as it is 1 yaer old. I have just entered Thailand after travel abroad on August 10 and was granted Permission to stay until November 8 based on a Re Entry Permit.

My original plan was to apply for a new retirement Visa (or extension based on retirement), but if I need the money in the bank 3 month prior to expiry I am too late because they should have been in the bank on August 8.

Please confirm that my only option is then to make a visa run before November 8 and then get a 3 month Permission to stay. I will then have to have the 800 T in the bank November 1 just to be safe. And then apply for extension of stay based on retirement 30 days before permission to stay ends.

Sorry for the confusion in the terms.

You have a mistake somewhere as your re-entry permit date should match your original permitted to stay date - suspect stamp of 8th should have been 9th. But that is immaterial - you can not obtain a 90 day stay without visiting a Consulate and obtaining a new non immigrant O visa for your new entry (which you need to do unless you want to have Immigration change a visa exempt entry for 2,000 baht extra cost).

The 800k must be in account for 3 months on date of application for second extension of stay. But if you just put into account you can return on any entry and convert to a 90 day stay in Bangkok (and some other offices) for the above mentioned 2,000 baht fee.
