Need Visa Run, Malaysia Still Good?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was previously on an extension of stay based on a WP, but now its cancelled. I am heading out to get a 30 day exemption tourist stamp. I saw some new regulations regarding entering Malaysia....said something similar to that everyone entering malaysia must have a visa prior to arrival?? Is this true? What is recommended more singapore or malaysia? (I just want a 30 day exemption stamp for now, next time I'll do a tourist visa)

Thanks

It might help if you state what Nationality you are ?

No visa needed for Malaysia.

Have read reports of some people not even leaving the Airport in Malaysia, just turn around and come straight back again if you want to.

As stated no visa required for US to Malaysia.

Great. I am going to book my ticket to malaysia today. I would rather fly in and fly out same day, but I dont see any flights with Airasia that land and depart with enough time in between for me to catch the departing flight..If I depart hkt Monday and arrive in Malaysia around 12:45 i only see one departing flight from malaysia which departs at 13:15. Clearly not enough time. Does anyone have experience with the fly in fly out routine and or suggestions?

THanks

No visa needed for Malaysia.

What if I enter Malaysia by land crossing (going by tourist bus from Singapore to Malacca)? Anyone know?

My Thai travel agency keeps insisting I need a visa (American passport holder here). I can't find any information about border crossings and if the requirements are different.

Checking the visa requirements for you your travel agency should arrive at this page: http://www.timaticweb.com/cgi-bin/tim_website_client.cgi?SpecData=1&VISA=&page=visa&NA=US&AR=00&PASSTYPES=PASS&DE=MY&user=DL&subuser=DELTAB2C

If you plan to arrive in Malaysia without a return on onward ticket out of Malaysia the following applies:

- Nationals of USA not holding a return/onward ticket could be either requested to purchase one or refused entry.

Could this be the reason why your travel agent insists you need a visa?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

A visa is not required for air/sea/land arrival of less than 3 months on US passport. Is your travel agent selling visas by chance?

Thanks, I'm still trying to verify the land arrival thing. All the websites (including Malaysian gov't website) do not specify mode of arrival, so I'm thinking their requirements are uniform whether arriving by land or air. I know Cambodia has different entry requirements depending on air or land arrival for US citizens, so I'm just a little concerned. Any way, my travel agent is a Thai with marginal English, and I'm not sure if he's reading the data right.

Thanks for the affirmation that I don't have to go to the Malaysian Embassy a day early to sort all this out before departure to Singapore/Malaysia!

Cheers,

For any one else who may need to know in the future: After many attempts at calling the Malaysian embassy in BKK (tried for two days, allowed the phone to ring up to 20 times before disconnect), I finally reached a human who confirmed that visa/permit stamp regulations for land crossings is the same as air entry.
