I have previously renewed my marriage visa in KL but now living in Chiang Mai. So I was thinking about renewing it in Laos. Some years ago I was only offered a three month visa. I have all the right documents for a multiple entry one year visa. But can anybody tell me if I can renew in Vientiane without problems. Its a long way to KL from Chiang Mai! Many thanks.

KL has open policy to provide multi entry non immigrant O visa with normal ID/marriage paperwork plus 100k in bank account. Other places may provide without, with 100k, with 400k, with 800k or not provide and do not appear to be consistent in there policy. If I were using Laos it would be Savannakhet at this time.

also, my current situation is. had a single entry Non Imm O visa plus a two month extension, would it possible to get a one year extension, based on my monthly income of 40,000 baht a month?

You have a Thai wife? Proof of 40k monthly income is the requirement for one year extensions of stay from Immigration so if wife is willing and living together you should be able to do that - be sure to apply during last 30 days of permitted entry. If you do not know the normal paperwork required ask or search (it does vary a bit however from place to place).

Go with wife, her ID card, her home register, proof of local residence (lease or such), photos around home and outside to show house number and inside to show clothing together, proof of income, marriage certificate and the ledger entry of marriage, your passport/arrival card and 4x6cm photos for TM.7 application taken within last six months, copies of everything (suspect two sets are required there) and be prepared to obtain final stamp about 30 days later (you are allowed to stay until then). Those using that facility may be able to add to my list. Cost is 1,900 baht.

many thanks lopburi jap.gif

would home register and lease agreement have to be same address?

No - but she needs a copy of her home register where she is listed - many Thai do not bother to change until own property.

That said you might get an official telling you have to do where she is registered to pass the buck - but to register where live.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

Letter from your Thai Bank showing balance and up to date bank book.

OR.

Letter from your Embassy showing income. Now may also need proof of income as back up

OR.

Proof on income if working in Thailand. Tax documents etc.

Marriage Certificate

Marriage Registry entry.

Wife's Tabbien Baan and ID Card.

Your Passport.

Copies of everything.

Photos of you and your Wife in and around the house.

A map showing the way to your house.

Passport size photos and 1,900 Baht fee.

Take your Wife to be interviewed.

You will be given a 30 day under consideration stamp.

Go back in a month and get the remainder.
