Fire damages Bangkok's Polish Embassy

BANGKOK: -- A fire broke out at the Polish Embassy to Thailand early Tuesday morning, damaging part of the premise and injuring a diplomatic official.

The Polish Embassy is located in Soi Sukhumvit 5 of Bangkok's Wattana district.

The incident took place at around 4.30am when the blaze began on the third floor and spread to the fourth floor, where Polish diplomatic staff reside. The blaze was brought under control within hours.

The fire damaged two floors of the rented five-storey building and caused minor burns to a diplomatic official.

An investigation by metropolitan police showed that the fire was caused by an electrical short-circuit.

The incident took place just hours before the embassy was scheduled to move to a new location, according to the embassy.
