Getting Married, -Requirements

Featured Replies

Hello.

With this new visa hassle, Marriage is on the table again.

My GF wonder wonder if she need a birth certificate ?

so far as i know only a copy of the family book + ID card is enough, but does anyone know for sure ?

I would assume she need a paper stating she isn't currently married, what paper would that be ?

It seems your girlfriend is Thai. A Thai doesn't need a paper that she isn't married or a birth certificate. As you guessed, the household registration and ID-card will be enough. She can get married at any amphur, and they will check her details in an online database.

If she was married before, she will need to bring the diforce certificate.

Thanks.

And on a related issue: Can i hire any reputable/authorative lawyer to go with me to Jomtien immigration when it's time to renew/report after 90 days ?

And if so, which lawyer is recommended to deal with fishy Jomtien immigration officers ?

You could hire a lawyer but its a waste of money in 95% of cases. Dealing with an extension of stay and doing a 90 day report are easy, as long as you have the required paperwork. If you haven't got the right paperwork, a lawyer won't be much use!

On the country side many Thais don't have a birth certificate, so they have to show up in the amphur (..it was that way in my case and others of my surroundings as well...) with a close relative and a representative of the village to get some paper work confirmed. No hussle, just Thailand

No birth certificate means no record of birth, so they will have no ID-card etc. also. Since the OP's GF has an ID-card and is on a household registration I suspect there is a birth certificate.

There are a lot of people without access to birth certificates (which have been destroyed by fire or water). There are provisions for family/officials to cover this. US Immigration had alternatives to birth certificate spelled out in years past as the number of such cases is so high here.
