Computer Virus

Featured Replies

Hi

I had adobe reader 9 on my computer and after a software update on 19/8/2011 had a trojan invade my computer.

Wiped off version 9 and downloaded version 10.

The virus reappeared - Gen: Trojan. Heur. FU2.cq1@amvOWPgi.

My Bit Defender was unable to disinfect it.

I found it in quarentine but am not sure whether its safely locked up, as it reappears most times on opening up my computer.

Object name

c:/Documents + settings/all users/application data/adobe/setup/(AC 76Ba86-7AD7-1033-7844-AA1000000001)/data1.cab=]reader_s1.exe

The slants (/) go the other way but cant find it on my computer!

Currently have got rid of my adobe reader on my computer (which seems to run normally). How important is it to have an adobe reader - what cant the computer do without it?

Tks for any replies

You only need Adobe reader if you need to open pdf files. But very often people will send pdf files attached to emails if they want to share documents etc.

Are you sure the virus came with the Adobe update?

It may that a virus scan took place around the same time as the update?

Hmmm, I have Adobe Reader 9, clicking on 'check updates' says no updates are available.

Where did you find Reader 10?

EDIT found it on Adobe.com test downloading now.

With my limited knowledge of computers reading within the "object name" c:/documents + settings..........................Adobe/setup/ etc......... I would have thought that the it came from Adobe.

What I have now done is to download version 8 and have run an other deep scan which is clear. Are there any issues with version 8 i.e. security wise etc.?

Tks

there are less bloated substitutes for A reader in portables

No help with your trojan problem but if you just want a pdf reader try Free Foxit Reader

:)

Adobe Reader is indeed awful bloatware. Foxit Reader used to be tiny but has also put on some weight and is now merely small. A new PDF reader keeps popping up on my radar - http://www.nitroreader.com/. I have yet to try it out, but I've only seen good reviews for it so far.

Bitdefender isn't fantastic.I now have microsoftessentials ,it works good for me

Has tested and used security essentials since it started. If trojans in computer, it will find it and remove it securely.

I can alsp recomend avira antivirus alongside it. They work very good as a pair and will not interfere with each other

and not slow your computer.
