Nakhon Sawan immigration has accepted my paper work for 1 year non-o marrige visa.

But they still didn't give me the full 1 year. I only got a preliminary 1 month visa because they had to visit my home and interview me and my wife and one of our neighbours before they issued the full visa.

I suppose they want to check if it is a marrige of convenience. I doesn't worry me. Ours is not a marrige of conveniece and we do live together in our house (when I am not off teaching).

But I am still curious. I have never heard of people being interviewed at home by immigration police. Is this common ?

For couples who do not have children, a home visit is common before granting the 1 year extension.

They may ask some personal questions that make you feel uncomfortable, and they commonly take a photo of the couple sitting on the bed for some reason unbeknownst to anyone but the person who thought it was a good idea. But once you get through it, if the marriage is genuine as you say, it should be no problem.

It is part of the process, in Nonthaburi they got a policeman to ask questions to people in my condo, including the security guards, that was for the first year, since then they never bothered again.

All such extension of stay have an under review period as the local office is not the deciding authority. This will happen every year. As for interview/visit it may happen or may be a check you are not even aware of. But nothing abnormal about a visit and they are trying to do more often with the expanded immigration office setup.

I never had the visit which would be a problem as I don't have neighbors :-)

But the 1 month provisional is normal as the immigration office ( not all of them ) don't have the final authority in issuing those extensions.

I got my first extension 2 weeks ago no home visit but we did have to bring a witness with us who confirmed he had known us for 3 years immigration then told witness to leave then 5 minutes later asked the wife foran extra 1000 bht so got extension but not happy about extra monies payed

No it wasn't for re entry permit it's blatant corruption he didn't ask me for it he asked the wife and she gave it to him.

Bit off a difficult situation as we are not living at the address we gave immigration so we didn't really want to rock the boat and pretty difficult to refuse when this is the person who decides whether you get the extension or not

I have told the misses next time just say you want a receipt for any money you pay

Thanks all.

I might add that if you look back on my visas they are a mix of (90+60 days) "marrige visas" and "work visas". But no tourist visas for 6 -7 years.

As said it is normal for a 30 day under review every time you extend for Thai wife and a check is supposed to be made by police the first time (it was often deferred in the past but should not be now). Has nothing to do with your doing anything wrong - just routine.

i apply for my first 1 year extention based on my marriage before 4 days. they want the village man write a paper about me and my wife stayin together and they want we take a neigbour go to the immigration with us. they interview with him about us. everthing went good. after that the officer tell my wife they will come to check our house within 4 or 5 days and they say they will cal before they come. they take our phone numbers. it is now 4 days nobody have come yet. i am bored staying in home we want to go to somewhere for 2 or 3 days but we cant leave the house. can we call the immigration and ask when they will come? but i worry if we do that they can think we are not living together we try to learn which day they will come? can somebody give me advise please

They said they will call so you are free to not be there. I suspect this may have been a maybe visit; if boss says they must, if you have a letter from village head and a witness come with you as that is likely all the proof they need for there records.

That said your calling them to explain you wish to go out should not have any negative meaning if you ask if OK.

update: immigration officers visit my house yesterday. they call me before they come. they are very nice people. everything went easy. they took photo of us in front of the house with one of the officer and the neighbour before we bring him to immigration office. it took 15 minutes to complete.
