I live and work in Thailand for some years and never had any overstays, except a single time a few years back for 2 days. I was sure to be due for 31st of August since I had a wrong date in my Passport and my accountant was away for 10 days. so realised the overstay only at immigration that same day (31st August) when they told me and send me back without my extension, they told me to wait for the return of my accountant to get the papers done and doing a visa run to another country to apply for a complete new 1 year Non Immigrant B over there, paying the overstay fine of max. 20.000 Baht by leaving Thailand. I visited saw my accountant today since he returned last night and he was very surprised because he too had the same wrong date in mind as I.

He said he would do his best, but would need a week to prepare the papers and that I should go to Laos as soon as the paperwork was done. On 31.st of August I was exact on 4 weeks overstay, today is week 5, next week, already 6 :-(

Since I 've never had such an overstay and I do not know what awaits me, I am quite nervous. Is it possible that they refuse to let me in again? What to expect in the most worse case?

I live in Trat region, is a run to Laos really the only option? Wouldn' t it be possible and even better to travel to Cambodia(Sihanoukville, or Pnom Phen)instead, it seems much more easier to me.

What will I have to pay all in all, except travel expense and accommodation? Can anyone give me some advise and help me with this please?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Go through the airport, pay 20k, take a flight and return same day, no problem. Its been done a million times and it will work for you too. No worries man, we all have been in that position... well not all but a lot of us.

That would be great but the OP would have a Visa on Arrival and am sure that it cannot be changed for a Non Immigrant visa. If the OP flies out then she would have to get a new non Immigrant visa at the Consulate.

Costs involved for the OP would be 20000baht to clear overstay, maybe a few thousand more for the officer, then hotel, new visa fee and food costs to be added.

Thanks everyone for the kind replies, but this does not really helps, a same- or even next day return flight will leave me with a 'on arrival' tourist visa and as far as I know is it exactly as 'beano2274' said, it is impossible to change such a visa into a Non Immigrant B.

I am aware on the overstay fine of 500 per day and a max of 20k. as mentioned in my original post and have calculated my travel n expense and accommodation if Vientiane is my best opt.

I need to know if the Thai-Embassy in Cambodia will be an option for the one year Non Immigrant B and what, where ever I go I will have to pay for the visa incl. all additional costs such as entry and all other possible additional fees.

It would seem all you need is a single entry non immigrant B visa which you should be able to obtain with an overnight stay. Visa will cost about 2,000 baht. You then return and can resume working legally and 60 days later extend your stay as you have done previously.

@lopburi3

Thanks a lot for this info, I will try in Vientiane according to all the info I could find in the entire Visa forum.

Or would I being able to apply for a single entry non immigrant B also in Cambodia, that would be so much easier since I could make the bus trip starting from the island non stop to the border, instead of traveling by bus to Bangkok first and from there by plane to Udon Thani and onwards by taxi/bus etc...

Anyone recently got a single- or multiple entry non immigrant B visa in Phnom Penh or Sihanoukville?

Believe it could be obtained there - the only issue is your overstay and getting to borders as police could check transportation - it is always best to leave by airport (international) and pay overstay there rather than risk arrest on trip to border. But it is only a slight risk and have not seen recent reports of people being stopped/jailed for judge.

1) Do not worry about paying your 20k overstay at the Trat border if you decide to take a bus or whatever to Phnom Penh. You CAN get the Non-B in PP but cannot in Sihanoukville.

2) She would still need all of the paperwork in order to get a new Non-B visa and would NOT just be able to come back and start work again legally as she would still need to obtain a Work Permit as we all do. But as you know, most do work waiting for the WP to come.

3) I agree why would you want to go all the way to Lao Vientiane when thats around an 18 hour bus ride for you. Trat to PP is MUCH quicker. With all od the paperwork from the Accountant if in order you will easily get your Non- B.

4) When I paid the 20k overstay a few years ago they were all laughing saying "Please hurry back to Thailand" so there is a very very slim chance you would be arrested.

5) Phnom Penh normally makes you wait 4 days before getting your Visa however if you pay them $30.00 USD you can get it the next day. Also if you have a doctors note saying you have a health problem like Diabetes or something you will get it the next day FREE.

6) You can choose to use one of the touts that work on the street outside the Thai Consulate and they are fairly trustworthy but either way in PP or Laos the "Visa Companies" always get served first so just stay close to the counter and let them see you. If not then sometimes you can expect to wait until after 5:00pm

All in all it's not as bad in PP as I make it sound but just a heads up. Also PP is a much nicer and cheaper place to spend a night or 2.

You CAN if you want get the mini van from Trat to the Cam border then cross (paying your overstay) take a motorcycle taxi to the Bus Station (Tell them the Middle bus station) or they will take you to a tour company that will sell you a much more expensive ticket and stops at the same Central Station where everyone else pays around 250 baht rather then the 650 baht the tour company will charge you. Just google bus station in Cambodia near Trat and you will see what I mean.

Motorbike taxi from the boarder to the Bus should be 50 baht plus a 10 baht Toll at a gate on the way.

Just make sure you get to the boarder fairly early as the bus leaves at 12:30 and gets to PP around 5:30 (If I remember correctly) then just start looking on the side sois off of the River Rd for hotels. About 500 baht per night.

I think if you search the Pattaya Forum you will see an old post with a detailed trip. For you just deduct that you are going from Trat and not Pattaya.

Thanks a million, DocW.

This really is very helpful, I have been in Vientiane twice already and yes, it is a boring city. In Cambodia I have visited only Siem Reap for Angkor Wat and have passed Phnom Penh but don' t know the city at all. I have already booked my trip for next week. I'll simply take the minibus from Koh Chang all the way to Phnom Penh, crossing the border on my own, pay the 20k fine at Had Lek border and will join the bus group after for PP. Thanks to the forum I have already found an agent, Mr. Keo who is highly recommended by many and he will assist me with the visa stuff. For the return I will try to arrange the trip myself to being able to add a couple of days at Sihanoukville since I have never been there before, too.

Once more thanks a lot, I feel much, much better and safe now.
