Vietnam Vets

Featured Replies

Just wondering if any BMs flew out of Udo®n in the Vietnam war, or other airbases anywhere, or otherwise saw action in Laos or the tri-border area (hey not that there were any US combat soliders, EVER, in Laos, of course)?

You can PM me if you don't want to go public!

Many thanks,

My father flew out of Udorn back in 64 or 65. He flew night intelligence missions over the HCM trail. Had a Laos spook on board listening to radio chatter. He didn't enjoy the work as it was night missions, dangerous, and they flew pretty much every night. Really tedious work. Up and down the trail.

He did say they got shot at on a regular basis. Quite a few flyers were based out of Udorn. Pretty big base if I am not mistaken.

Ex-Air America qualify?;)

I have an acquaintance who was based at Udorn and Long Tien, inserting Montagnards and Green Beret recon teams into the Laos, Cambodia and Vietnamese jungles and extracting them again.

Some of his stories are hair-raising.
