Retirement Visa

Featured Replies

Hi All

I am going to China to teach for a year - maybe two

I am renewing my retirement visa in Chiang Mai right now.

It will be good until Sept 14th, 2012. I will have spent 10 months in China

and will return to Thailand in June, 2012. I assume the visa will be valid

when I land in Thailand in June 2012?? Is this so? Or must I take other action?

If I have to....

Can one apply for a retirement visa in Thailand from China??

Or since I am a US Citizen ???

Appreciate any and all sincere comments

Make sure you have 800,000 baht in a Thai bank untouched for 3 months prior to applying for renewal on Sept 14th 2012 if you want another years extension.

Make sure you get a re-entry visa before you leave.

I think that's all you need to worry about, but others might tell you more.

You aren't renewing your retirement visa in CM. You are getting an annual extension based on retirement in CM. MAKE SURE you get a RE-ENTRY PERMIT as well! With the new extension and the permit, yes your extension will still be valid when you enter June, 2012. However, by that time you will need to be preparing for your NEXT extension to extend another year after Sept 2012.

Retirement visas (0-A) are only available for an American like yourself ... in America.

If you need to stay longer in China past Sept 2012, post again on how to START OVER with a new O visa. For now, why worry?
