Engine Immoboliser Availability?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Arer engine immobilisers / alarms available here that are of factory quality? I notice the base model mazda 2 does not have this component, and was wondering about the cost and availability of these systems in Thailand. Are they available at car audio shops or elsewhere? Anyone with any experience of these please post your comments:)

Thanks

The best immobilizers I believe are the ones fitted to the car at manufacture first fitted by Merc's where the ignition key has a chip that corresponds to the vehicles ECU when present. ( I stand to be corrected or verbally mashed to pieces ).

After market ones are OK but can be overcome easily to the knowing car thief.

If your boshed a quick easy way is to place a concealed switch under the dash somewhere to disable the ignition.

Alternately you can buy and chain a large Rottweiler to the car. :D

All of the major car alarm/security brands are available in TH, and have varying degrees of engine-cut features. None are as good as the better OEM systems though - it's just not possible to compete with ECU-level disabling.

Any decent car audio shop should be able to assist, and the internet will be your friend in comparing models/features. However, be warned that installation quality is paramount to having an aftermarket system that's not probelmatic, and a proper install (i.e. soldered in) will more than likely invalidate some items of the car's warranty.

Hey there

I think MRO explains it fully, my comment on Merc's was I believe them to have been the first to bring the ECU type alarm system out in the ' S ' class models as was the ' S ' class that brought if not all first's to many other manufacturer's vehicle, like modern ABS and the other ABS thingy. :D:lol:

And thanks I always have a nice day I'm retired not retarded yet. :whistling:

The finest Imobolizer ive found i called .Thai Mechanic..:D

I don't normally do one-liner posts, but that ^ my friend, is a f'n corker! :D

Made my day :cheesy:

There is a combination electronic/mechanical immobilizer that is sold in Thailand. It is activate with a dual foot lever under the dash of the drivers side. Once you depress both, it activates the electronic cut off to the vehicle, and activates the brakes. You disengage with a key. They sell them at many car audio places. Autobacs has them for sure, I saw them there, but can't remember the price. I have one installed in my truck, and it seems to be the one most recommeded, since it does both electronic and mechanical immobilization. See attached photo.
