Innocent Card game leads to arrest of 12 Scandinavian’s at Pattaya Bar

PATTAYA: -- Chonburi Immigration Officers detained a group of 12 Scandinavian’s who were caught playing cards at a bar in Soi Beokoew close to the Grand Hall Market. Initially Officers were convinced that money was involved in the highly organized card game but were unable to find any money changing hands which meant that no actual offence was taking place. Despite this, the group of middle-aged tourists and long-term residents were taken to the Immigration office in Jomtien where they were warned to be careful about taking part in card games, even if money is not changing hands.

Immi <deleted>........100% sure it was a tip-off from some Thai.

It shows once again, that Thais can't play what ever without money being involved.

Why didn't they just warn them there?

Good thing they didn't catch someone taking out their wallet to pay for a beer or something.

More evidence we are not in Kansas anymore.

friendly game of crazy 8s?

If they would read all of "Todays BEST Thai Visa topics" and all the following posts, they would have no time to play games.

On the other hand, playing card games is maybe more rewarding.

Just why do the Thai police take such a grim view of gambling? I know it's illegal but so is prostitution!

It's the nature of card playing 101. You must play for something....even pennies/satangs. Consider the bibs as the house and merely taking a rake.

Gambling leaves less time for sex. And that leads to less demand for prostitution. Now if you had a financial interest in prostitution, wouldn't you be concerned too about gambling ,be they "innocent" or otherwise?

Such criminals should never be allowed into the country!

Or maybe just to win, doesn't have to be monetary at all.

What a joke?

Warned against playing cards!

You would think that they had better things to do but obviously not.

What would happen if they were playing bridge and the scores were written down?

Is that considered gambling?

Why didn't they just warn them there?

Because Thais don't like foreigners.

Because if the Thai police is able to minimize illegal gambling, there will be no need to make money in prostitution due to high gambling debts.

Problem solved!

Because they weren't getting their cut. Now if you talk about gambling dens in BKK, well that's fine as they're the ones running the games!

I suppose Monopoly would be illegal - headline:

Foreigners caught gambling with foreign currency

when looking for above pic, found this - maybe a hoax, but almost possible . . .

Next all farangs driving cars will be taken to the police station and warned against speeding.

Perhaps when you fly into the country immigration can just send you to the cells for a few hours to warn you of the dangers of the laideeez. (though maybe that's a good idea for some).

:D
