Some months ago I got from the General Hospital here in Chiangrai a supply 270 tablets of Lorazepam 1 mg. Reason, sometimes I could not get the sleep and wanted a sleeping tablet.

Today I went to a heart doctor with some questions, that is all. I did not get any answers but the only thing he changed was my Diclofenac for my Spondilytis, a medicine I take already more than 20 years. Here in Thailand I don't need one quarter from what I used to take in my home country. Reason:

It is unsafe for my heart... ok the doctor knows best... He has a far better painkiller for me, if I wanted to try that. Ok I said.

He prescribed me with Tramadol, 1 tablet of 50 mg every 6 hours.

My opinion, but I think I can be complete wrong is that Lorazepam, Tramadol and a few beers knocks you out. In my home country it would be absolute unthinkable to get this cocktail of medicines. Here in Thailand, in fact, you can get what you want. The medici do not control the side effects and interactions at all.

You even do Not get a warning for not driving the car etc!

one gram of Marihuana is good for at least half year in prison but an opiumlike drug Tramadol is safe.

Can somebody tell me in what way I think wrong??

One truly has to take caution as it applies to the ever-increasing indifference [vacant knowledge] and callous manner in which Western allopathic medicine is practiced here......especially in regards to the drug and pharmaceutical world, where these quacks prescribe most anything and everything under the sun - most often for no reason and blantant carelessness.

And then there is the over-the-counter industry that has easily encased the reasonably numb population.....never mind, that's another chapter.

It is my greater opinion, that today, medical practitioners are ill-educated and lesser trained within their chosen healing profession. Churning out the same old duplicate prototypes......

Diclafenac destroys your liver if taken over long periods. If you were taking it for 20 years, hmmm, you are lucky. :)

Where did you get that wisdom??? In fact Every drug is destroying your liver because it has to break down something unnatural.

The biggest problem with diclofenac is stomach problems which I had only a few times.

My friend and my professor consultant gend me up on all the drug risks with my problem, yes you must take anti acid stuff for your stomach but the Diclafenac over a long period is not good for your liver, period.

Alas, anti-biotics are quite abused and unnecessarily over-used worldwide.

Count yourself lucky, I get prescribed paracetamol for EVERYTHING.

I don't bother with the doctors now. I cut out the middle man and buy my own paracetamol.

I do the same and it's much cheaper. You can check the internet about any pharmaceutical and get the same general knowledge as most doctors have. Virtually EVERY drug will have side affects of some sort or another. It just depends on whether you can tolerate those side affects. Most pain killers give you constipation. It has been my experience that most Thai pharmacists know what each drug is supposed to do, and the pharmacist will give good information. If you are unsure then take a photo of the label or write it down and then research it yourself. I say take a photo because you have to get the name correct and if you make a mistake in writing it's hard to get an answer.

Amongst a certain propotion of Thais is the belief, the more medication a Dr prescribes the more knowledgable he is, these people usually have to pay for the privelege of seeing a Dr and they want their moneys worth, a nation of hypochondriacs, if the Dr didnt prescribe medication they would feel cheated or feel the Dr was no good.

Now THAT is the truth. :jap:

And it ain't just in Thailand. I hear the same thing from a doctor friend of mine in Canada. He is a fishing buddy and he sometimes tells "doctor" stories without mentioning names. Even he shakes his head in wonderment about people in general, and he's seen it all.

Hmmm....

Just substitute Thai with American and your paragraph above would be mirrored exactly.

About the anti biotics: You don't need to take them, just eat your meat every day and you will have enough to destroy all bacteria in your body.

You don't eat meat? Don't worry... in your drinking water are besides antibiotics, all the hormones etc. to give you a long prosperous life.

It is THE way to kill the human race in my opinion... and nobody is doing something about it.

@ Transam: Your doctor (yes even a professor!) told you so Period... Please don't visit Thai doctors, not even professors or visit as many different as you can... at least you will not know what to believe anymore.

@ JanVerbeem: Yes , the doctor told me 1 in the afternoon and 2 before sleeping... Every day.
