Dok kham tai is a small kinda poor farm town where my wife and family grew up and living. Lots of good memories when I visited there when we had the old Thai style home on stilts. Now a mixture of both the old and new now. I guess in about 1993 or so, we went to visit like every year for Christmas time. No one around us celebrated Christmas, I had not since I was a kid, and my wife surprised me on Christmas eve, we were going to have a Christmas party the next night. The next day, somewhere, family got a small Christmas tree and decorated it and the local women came to the house early to start preparing food (you name it, we had it). Also did not know all the local young kids were to come and I was to give out wrapped gifts to them (no clue what was bought or how much). But to see those older family friends chowing down on food, drinking whiskey, beer, etc, and then me giving this gifts to kids whose parents were invited, made me feel so happy and would never forget their excitement, laughing, happiness. I still have the video of that night. After that year, we go visit in February every year because of my work schedule but when we move there next year, Christmas for the young kids will be celebrated every year at my house just for the joy of seeing the happiness of these young kids eating a great dinner and getting gifts.
