NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) -- Seventeen people were injured on Tuesday when part of a building in New York City collapsed and struck a bus, authorities said.

The New York Post reported that the two-story building's facade and the attached scaffolding collapsed in Harlem, sending bricks, rocks and debris crashing down. Firefighters rescued people trapped underneath the rubble.

Police said a total of 30 people were on the bus at the time of the accident, of whom eight people were injured. Among the injured are also two police officers who were hurt while digging through the rubble, police said.

The city's Department of Buildings is investigating the accident.
